The first grading period for the F1 League came to a close after meetings at Long Eaton and Northampton. After an interesting first four meetings of the season, the first monthly reshuffle will see some of the lower grade pace setters moving towards the back of the grid as a reward for their high points scores so far. At Long Eaton the trend continued as Mac #219 took maximum points from his Heats along with Michael #2 with Dragon #428, JayW #35, Jok #79 and Scrapman #53 taking the remaining Heat wins. White top #217 Weslake managed to grasp a last chance slot in the Final by winning his Consolation along with Corny #391. However it was maximum World Qualifying points for Mac #219 as he stormed the Final win from flying blue tops Jayw #35 and AndyH #148. HotRod #247 restores some glory for the red tops by winning a Grand National along with Scrapman #53 and Barney #52 who continues his impressive early season form. The week after signalled the start of the tarmac season with Northampton the venue, but no change in the lower grade winners trend. Once again it was Mac #219 who romped away to a World Qualifying Maximum, winning both his Heats and the Final. However he was made to work until the last lap to take the lead from white top F2stox270 who had already claimed both his Heats. Also qualifying with a maximum score was Dragon #428 with Skeet #31, Michael #2 and Jok #79 picking up the remaining Heats. Mac was the man ideally placed to capitalise on the last bend but the first five cars were all within hitting distance of each otherclose or what!?! Some rather action-packed Grand Nationals see race wins for Scrapman #53, Skeet #31, Mrs WW #27 and Stuch #131. And so the end of the first grading period for the F1s sees an interesting reshuffle with all of the original Superstars finding themselves downgraded to red. Top of the tree is AndyH #148 but Mac jumps from yellow to 2nd top scorer despite doing only 3 meetings! Rounding out the Superstars is HotRod #247 but by only 2points from Jok #79. Straight up to Red from Yellow go Michael #2 and Barney #52 with Chewy #102 and Weslake #217 climbing into the Blues from the White grade. Shall be interesting to see what happens as the grades come into effect as from the UK Open at Bradford. The F2s had meetings at Newtongrange and Long Eaton with the latter being a Qualifying Round. Coming out on top at the Tarmac Masters meeting at Newtongrange was Mac #717 continuing his amazing early season form. However work commitments saw the Flying Scot missing at Long Eaton so it was left to HotRod #247 to take the spoils despite a rather handily placed white top DB #644 who had to qualify via a Consolation. No-one was able to take maximum points after the Heats with Wrinkley #261, AndyH #148, HotRod #247, Trash #512, Chris #154 and Jok #79 all claiming Heats with DB #644, BB #622 and Chris #154 all winning their respective Grand Nationals. Kings Lynn was the venue for the second Saloon Heat meeting of the season on 30th April and what a belting meeting it was! After a maximum score at Cowdenbeath a fortnight previous, things didnt go to plan for Jok #68 and he found himself with only one points finish after his Heats. However, Jok made up for it in an action-packed Final placing 2nd behind AliP #46 who made very good use of his starting slot near the front to storm into a lead he was never to lose. Behind him all hell broke loose with cars flying into the Armco left, right and centre, claiming a few early casualties. Drive of the Final came from Skeet #99 who found himself a lap down in 11th place after only 3 laps a victim of the opening lap chaos. However, after unlapping himself Skeet blasted his way through the pack to finish 3rd only a few seconds behind the first pair. Also finishing well despite a bad start was debutant Scrapman #53, placing 4th after finding himself as low as 10th. If the Final was action-packed then the Allcomers races were pure psychotic as the Auld Enemies battle went into full swing. Amazingly, all 12 cars finished the first Allcomers race despite massive hits being registered by Travel #88 and Heat winner Sly #590. Adding to his Heat win was Skeet #99 who managed to take the victory despite some close attention from AndyH #636 (who had been suffering from a bout of Reliant Robin Syndrome in the Final) Allcomers Race 2 was mental from the drop of the green and after 13laps only 8 cars made it across the finish line, this time headed by Scrapman #53 (adding to his earlier Heat win) with Skeet #99 a half-lap down, but being closely shadowed by Dino #126. Special mentions to league debutants F2stox145 and our transatlantic friend DavieG #171 who both scored well in their first meetings of the season.
