Competition Finally Underway In Great Conditions
Jeffreys Bay, South Africa (Friday, July 20th) The Billabong Pro commenced this morning at 7:45am (local time) with round one heats in great 4-5 ft (1.5m) conditions at Supertubes.
After being postponed for the past three days due to small surf, this morning’s swell lines were a welcome sight to all competitors. Contest director Michael ‘Munga’ Barry’s (Aus) hardest job this morning was clearing the lineup for the world’s top 45 rated surfers. Despite a chilly wind and slight rain, ‘J-Bay’ was packed with ‘free-surfers’ from first light, with everyone anxious to catch a classic wave. The day is sure to produce some amazing rides, with the world’s best surfers pitted against each other in some epic clashes. Full match breakdowns are listed below.
