'Not Just Another Britney Spears'

Sure she's an emerging teen pop star who sings about love, happiness, sadness and dreams, but 18-year-old Melissa Williams says that
comparisons between her, Britney Spears & all the teen female pop clones are completely off base.

"I've actually been compared recently to singers that I look up to, like
Mariah Carey and Madonna, so that has been really amazing,"
Melissa recently told the MTV Radio Network. "But then on the younger
side, you do get, 'Oh well, Britney Spears,' because I think they want to
compare us because we both bare our navels (Laughs) '... I
don't know, but really me and Britney are two completely different
artists."

Of course, she's flattered by the comparisons regardless, and says that she and her fellow teen pop artists (Mandy, Christina, Britney, etc) all respect eachothers' work a great deal, and get along great.

Williams, like Britney Spears, first single has been a big success (hitting the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart) but she's no newbie to the music industry; she scored her record deal long after recording
"All of you" for the soundtrack to the Disney film "Anastasia."

The success of "Make you mine" will undoubtedly come as a pleasant surprise to the teen singer, who initially had mixed feelings about the tune.

"To tell you the truth... I don't know, maybe I shouldn't say this, but I really didn't want to really record 'Make you mine' to be my first single,"
Williams told MTV News. "Of course, I have no regrets, because it's doing really well and I appreciate everyone's support on that."

The teen singer has plans for a Christmas album in the works, and she's also looking forward to doing some producing and writing on her next project. Before any of the above comes to pass, Williams's self-titled debut album will keep fans listening.

Williams will try to build on the "Total Request Live" success she's found
with "Make You Mine" and even more when her album hit stores on October 17, 2000.
