We have all watched Melissa grow musically from the beginning. Yes, "Melissa Williams" was a huge success, and "All I Am" sold impressively well (considering that the LP was released only 3 months after her debut album), but "Exposed" blows the first two albums away in all ways possible. Tons of songs stand out on this album. The title track has a definite R&B/adult contemporary feel, simular to the title track from "All I Am". The first single, "No Player", has a very edgy futuristic pop feel. The standout ballad on this album would definitely be "Some Kind Of Wonderful." It seems as though the lyrics are so simple, and that they are, but the way she sings the song makes the song so beautiful. Other standout songs are "Get Down On It (feat. Jordan Knight)," "He's With Me," "Superstar," "Happiness (feat. Craig David)," and "See You Again." But as with all albums, there are songs that are a let down musically. "If Ever" does feature the uncredited piano-playing talents of Richard Marx, but all in all is not the best song on the album. "The Truth (Should I Tell Him?)" does show somewhat of a vocal talent, but does nothing to make it stick in your head, which Melissa is infamous for. All in all, if you thought "All I Am" was a good album, "Exposed" will blow "All I Am" out of the water. "Exposed" ultimately breaks Melissa away from that bubblegum pop princess barrier, if only musically.
