Jo describes life away at college...

"Over here at Cal State Fullerton I will be studying Criminal Justice studies which is a continuation of the course I started in Australia.  We train roughly 20hrs per week, mostly afternoons and although we have routines to do, the numbers are largely reduced from the numbers of routines I had to do when I was an elite gymnast.  Here it is more on quality not quantity (we also need to protect these ageing bodies of ours!!!!). Starting around 10th January, the competition season begins and for the next 10 or so weeks you compete against a different university from around your area every weekend.  This may sound a little tiring but much to my surprise we got two days off before the last comp (as it was on a Monday and we don't train on weekends). This is very different to elite gymnastics where you would train the morning of the competition.  After the 10 weeks are up, there are different championships which if your team had good enough scores throughout the season, may qualify you to compete in them, finishing up with the Nationals which is in around April.  College gym is very much team orientated which I love, as elite gymnastics becomes very individual after a while."
