hi ya there everyone.....

just when i was getting a l'il x-cited 'bout a fellow econodog asking for
all the old econodogs out there....i read on, only to find she was talking
about "original members"...not "older members". wo-as me, what's an old gal
to do?

well, i have been sitting back and reading ALL your posts for months!
informative and entertaining! and it wasn't until i read a post from a
fellow cyberspace friend (howdi doodi am* - recognised the "mmmph"s and
"wooooo"s straight away!!!!!) that i felt i best write my inaugural post.

i'm a mum....yes, you read right...a mum (quite a few times over!) and wife,
who unashamedly sings and dances to powdy and my other, all time fave band,
OBLiViA (new single out next month - a ballad to die for - check out the
lyrics for all you passionate at heart!!), in the comfort of one's own
lounge room. no bdo, no heatstroke, no sweaty bodies squishing in the
mosh...just me and my soul losing themselves to the music and lyric of these
talented guys. sad...did i hear you say??? not at all.

i'll ask the question now...are there any other "old and married" econodogs
out there? come out of the woodwork...p-l-e-a-s-e! feeling a tad isolated
you know. don't be afraid, these young "thangs" might have their age over us
but hey...we've been there and done that but i'm sooooo glad to still get
moved when fab music passes my way. in fear of sounding like a very old
fuddy-duddy, i think pf are brilliant! i know i'm suppose to say something
like "they kick *ss" or "they rock" or such but...hey, we never used those
words back then in the olden days!! personally, the lyrics are what does it
for me. poetic nuances to the max! thanks guys!

sorry for the e-l-o-n-g-a-t-e-d post.
bye for now,
ange

Something For Kate are going therefore so am I, but I

Everybody speaks of Odyssey Number 5 and Internationalist and
debate which of the two are better. In my opinion, their latest two
albums are lacking in comparison to Double Allergic, by far their
best album, and Parables for a Wooden Ear. The blatant honesty in
JC and the pure soul of Fathers Pyramid, when Bernard sings, Shed
her mother's tears, Broke her mother's heart, Broke their feeble
bond, you can hear him bleeding straight from the heart. Their only
recent song I rate with equal beauty is These Days. Im sure people
still get a lot from their most recent albums, but I hope they can
return to there more upbeat, soulful and honest selves, the songs
that never ground your enthusiasm, no matter how many times you
listen them.

Hi All

I've got to agree with Jodie here, I personally think that Od5 is a great
cd.........but in saying that, I heard PF for the first time back in
september on a wee visit to Oz, and up till last week I had only heard od5 &
internationalist....but last week a kind wee soul sent me out some live
stuff and taped PF's other cd's for me, isn't she a wee princess for doing
that for meż
I've got to say that I still think Od5 is the best one I've heard... I do
think internationalist is good but not quite as good as Od5!!....but of
course, that's just my opinion. Music means different things to different
people....sometimes an album (givin away my age here, being an 'ol timmer of
31) means something special just because of the things that are going on in
your life at that time. I remember when U2's 'The Joshua Tree' came out, an
excellent album and I went to see them in Glasgow that year....but it meant
more to me because I was going out with a girl at the time who was very
special to me...certain songs make me remember the good times and others the
bad times.....that's the way music affects me anyway.
I seen PF here in Glasgow back in November and in London, and I'll be seeing
them again in April in Glasgow, and I know they'll play tons from Od5 and
internationalist...and I'll just enjoy them all.
Till the next time, *bye*
Phil

Well, I'm Jayne...19/f and live in Melbourne.
In regards to the Powderfinger.. it's great to hear that they are travelling
to America with Coldplay and opening for them along the way!
Er... i dont really get to read all the econo's (lol) coz this is my work
email, and we're preety busy most of the time, so don't think ignore this
list. I'm rapped that PF went so well in triple j's hottest 100! although i
do notice the dfference b'tween Internationalist and OD5 but that is good...
a band shouldn't stay the same, everyone's changing and PF are too! there
getting bigger and bigger so good on them for bringing out an excellent
album after the success of the one b4 - stop bitching peoples!
Thank you Christian for the ...

Yes I'm going to attempt the Offshore 2001... a bit disapponted to say the
least that the location has changed.. but what the f@*% am i supposed to do
about it? I really would've liked to have gone to torquay...How long is it
going for now?

ahhh the tediousness... tell me... any of you
guys read ent/music press outside of Juice (full
of sweet f.a.) and Rolling (tell me something I
already knew and put some nice pics with it that
were in NW so you can charge me $6.50..) Stone.

Anyway.. Mix Magazine had an interview with
merric & rosso in the edition I picked up last
week at my local independent music store - NOT
SANTIY, SO - APPARENTLY... the ever groovy M & R
are gonna do the brekkie slot on a NEW FM radio
station in Sydney, the first air date has not
been set but it's coming soon to a frequency near
you. Sorry the rest of Oz, it seems to just be a
sydney thing. They say they took the offer coz
they get to "do their thing" and have artistic
freedom, they wanted a change from Triple J and
wanted to get paid more than $5 for their work.

Do you REALLY wanna know what's going on in the
Australian entertainment & music industry? Do
you really wanna look for your information or do
you just like discussing the fact that you're
trying to find something out?

The infos all out there, you've just got to read
it.... really.

Howdy wicked web monsters,

Alas, our beloved drive time comics have deserted us for a new sydney FM
station. can't remember an exact name but it's UK owned, the article in the
Australian paper (a while back) reported that they themselves did not quite
know what their new job description entailed, one of them made a joke about
wanting to play 10 Michael spew Bolton tracks back to back. Sadly it seems
the tight-arse-everyday, gotta make a profit, commercialising fever that is
infecting all facets of our national broadcaster wins again, and our little
aussie tigers moved onto to 'greener pastures'. Farewell man child, man
boob, mullet loving heroes.

On a totally different and more relevant note, WooHoo Powderfinger!!! I've
goota say a belated but joyful TOP SHIT MATE! to the pf fellas, for the
tunes of my fav music makers turned out to be hottest in all the land last
year, once again, according the ppl who count (JJJ listeners). Devastatingly
I missed out on BDO, so I wish the guys have a kickarse time on the American
tour and hope they return to play for us lovin fans again soon. As many
times as I see the 'finger it's just not enough! Akin to some other of you
econo's however, even though I think it's
fantastic that the pf music style has continued to bloom in fresh directions
with each album and the guys are now blessed with success they deserve with
such talent, the Double Allergic/ Parables/ Internationalist riffs and
melodies rock just as supremely as the new stuff, and I know we'd all love
to hear a bit more.

Blah:) that's my 2 cents for now, keep on rockin in the free world,
lurve the Fflurtle

I have joined the powderfinger mailing list.
I am a 14 yr old powderfinger fan and my favourite song is just about all of
them. I have the last 3 albums. I live in WA and first found out about this
when I wanted some guitartabs. Now I have introduced myself like you
requested. Thanks for the digests and I hope you can keep spreading the
word.
Just one question...
Can you tell me how I read the guitar tabs? I have only just started guitar
after putting the thing down for a couple of years and have never used them.
Thanks

I'm wondering if anyone taped this? The ABC went down here in
Adelaide on the first night so I've only got the last 50 songs
on tape.

Please email me at the above address if you can help me out.
Thanks.

Subject: More on ON5
Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 13:31:42

I think Jodes made a really good point about ON5 - the bit about how,
because These Days and NMKS were released so long before the album came out
you kind of ignore them as album tracks (at least I think that was one of
her points). When I first heard ON5 I remember thinking that there were
only 1-2 good songs on it because I totally overlooked these two. Now I can
listen to the album and think that there are 4-5 good songs. Not good maths
there but maybe a couple have grown on me or something.

However, I don't think you can really say that writing love songs is
innovative. It might be something new for PF but it is hardly ground
breaking. One of the things I liked about PF was the lack of overtly love
song like material, I think there are enough bands doing that. I just you
could call songs like Pick You Up a love song but I never thought of it that
way until I heard Tiddas perform it because the way Bernie sings it the song
has a sardonic quality to me.

I think that ON5 is lyrically weaker than Internationalist. I mean look at
songs like Celebrity Head and Don't Want To Be Left Out. They are just piss
funny but in a witty, never get sick of it kind of way not a novelty song
kind of way. There isn't anything like that on ON5 - I think LAD had the
potential but misses the mark.

It is good to see some discussion happening on this though. It makes the
digests far more interesting.

the tragic death of that 15 year old chick. I like the new song by
Powderfinger. I hope it gets lots of airplay

hiya fellow doggies :)

well...first up, i sure hope the boys are having a hot time with the
coldplay guys, and playing in america. it'd be a bit of a change for
them...due to it being winter and snowing but i'm sure they'll survive. good
luck!

secondly....to the O#5 discussion.
i'm one of those people who is really pathetic at deciding things such as
this *grin* so i really don't sit on one side or the other.
it really just depends on my mood. i love all thei stuff for different
reasons.

wel...really thats all...I was basically just using this as
procrastination...from yr12 work *argh* oh well, at least there's not that
much time left in school!
well better get going.
take care,

emily :)

PS Phil....have fun at the shows in glasgow!.....and stop making me jealous
*LOL* :)

so who won the pf frisbee and sticker from whammo?
lucky buggers.
i have been agreeing that O#5 isn't the best pf album, and i'll stick to
that. but i have to say when i listen to thrilloilogy (esp from live at the
wireless-ooh those backing vocals!) it just makes my insides melt.
hrm, so if they can produce bloody excellent songs on an album heaps of
people don't absolutley adore, perhaps that's saying something about the
album as a whole. for me the album just doesn't work, although there is not
one song on it that i dislike. i think for me it's verrrrry soft and mellow
and i need a bit more rock and a little funk every 5 mins on an album.
