Hi Econos and welcome to the masses of new comers.
Well Janet....FINE..... Don't say hello to me or anything in your post....
BITCH ;p Where are you these Days anyway ?? And j.... you are a scrag....
now lets be honest with Veronica ;p
Mai, Megsie, Bren, Matty P, Jono..... hope you guys are still there too.
So we have a bit of an "Internationalist V's OD5". There has been heaps
opinion being thrown around lately. Lets stops and think about what is
really being said here....Lets take the statement Somer commented on last
digest. We have heard that OD5 "has little variation, imagination, or
innovation" Is this really true?????? Well here are what i belive to be the
facts......
VARIATION.... diversity, mixture of kinds.
Hmmmm I personally think "Like A Dog", "Whatever makes you Happy" and "
These Days" are quite different. Would you agree? Each has its own unique
qualities and style.
IMAGINATION...... picture to ones self. thought.
(lyrics) The opening line.... "This will be an uncertain time for us.... my
love. I can hear the echo of your voice.... in my head." and "Do you want to
see the things you trap set free? Better let go of what lets them be"
(excuse any mistakes here.... I am working from the office) I'm sure Bernie
didn't just pull these out his arse on a piece of paper. In my opinion there
is thought, care and imagination in these lyrics.
(Musically - imaginative) - The guitar in My happiness.... the intro to
These Days.... the acoustic in "Whatever makes you happy" Surely this
contains imagination.
Don't the lyrics & music make you actually think of a place, person or time
when you listen to them? Music to me is some thing to get lost in....
consumed by. I personal think there is plenty of thought both in the making
of and presentation of the album.
INNOVATION.....Introduction of new ideas
My my .... Plenty of that. Lyrically.... How many other (more direct) love
songs have pf written? Well thinking back over their 10 years of
releases.... not many? Here we have arguably 3 on one album!! Is this not
new??? Innovative???? I think that perhaps the pre-release of These days and
My Kind of Scene has given people the idea that the album is not innovative
as we had heard the material before the album was released.
Tom..... not a hit at you personally, mate. You are entitled to your opinion
and believe it or not I do respect that you think Internationalist is a
superior album. I think Internationalist is bloody brilliant too. As a
matter of fact I do listen to it more that OD5 lately. I just like to take
to opportunity to look more closely at what is said and analyse it for what
it is. I just PERSONALLY don't agree with what you stated and my reasons for
it are stated above. There may be reasons why you don't like OD5 but can you
honestly say it has little of these qualities??? In my opinion 'Odyssey' is
another brilliant album from the guys who just keep the good stuff coming.
Well...... there's my statement. What do you other doggies feel? Lets have
some healthy discussion. That is what the econo is about.
Cheers to all
Jodes

Subject: Merrick and Rosso
To all those questioning the dissapearance of Merrick and Rosso,
I actually read in the small corners of the Courier Mail around
Christmas time that they quit the station quoting something like
'they didnt want to be old timers on a youth station'. I figure
they are of to do bigger and better things on the comedy stage,
it just seems convenient after their rather successful shows last
year. But hey that is just my opinion.

Hey everyone.
Just delurking to say that the deal with Merrick and Rosso, as far as I can
tell from the various information I've got is that they have definately left
JJJ, due to a pay dispute. Apparently they're signing up to a new (I think
Sydney) radio station called DMG, possibly doing the breakfast shift...

Hey Doggies!
Just a short comment on that whole comment that
triple m made the other week, they're just a screwed
up radio station, and it just shows that the people
who listen to triple j are highly intelligent because
we made Powderfinger no.1 for the second year in a row
in the Hottest 100. If triple m ever did something
like that (on a much smaller scale..of course) they
would have a really CRAP band at no. 1
All objections, insults and death threats will be
replied to.
See ya, and have a safe and happy weekend!

in response to jill: you obviously didn't read my post correctly,
because if you did, you would notice that i said I understand that
people are entitled to their own opinion, before you call me a
petulant teenager, do some growing up yourself

Hello All,
Before I begin I just want to give a big thumbs up to Tom who started this
discussion. Rather than just the usual flattery and talk about who is the
sexiest, we finally have a decent thread, where people are able to voice
their individual opinions.
Personally I rate OD5 as my second favourite. Perhaps if it wasn't for the
three 'hits' (for want of a better word) I'd rate it as my favourite. For
me Internationalist was a little too mellow. Sure it had some great rockin
tracks like Belter, Celebrity Head, Good Day Ray, etc. But generally the
album lacked the "rock" of Parables (My all time favourite) and D.A.
Although a lot of ON5 is mellow as well, the songs seem to be crafted
better(for example, who doesn't get completely taken in at the end of Up and
Down and Back Again ?). Basically I reckon it flows better and when it rocks
it rocks harder.
On a different note, for those in Brisbane keep March 30 open. Charles
Foster Kane are launching their ep Northern at the Healer. Trust me if you
like Powderfinger, then you'll like CFK (Although I hate making comparisons
- think pf crossed with the cure !!??!!) Otherwise get down to the
Rockinghorse, where the eps are already available, and pick yourself up a
copy today!
Till next time

..something's finally gotten an ole econodog out of the woodwork to
post..
> And on the mentioned subject of Coldplay, they will be on Cold Live
> At The
> Chapel this Saturday on channel 10. Apparently it is the last in the
> series!!! It'll be missed, they've had some talent on that show...
it's not the last. i'm betting they're saving Neil Finn's set for the
last show - which is screening on Feb 24th. don't miss it - Crowded
House reunion ahoy. i was there for the recording.. my goodness.. it
was AMAZING. also Motor Ace are still ahead who recorded their set last
Sunday night. wooooo. that'll be a good one too!
Powderfinger aren't the first to cover 'Love My Way'.. +Live+ did in
1997 playing it on their north american tour. i have it on cd.. mmmph.
fantastic.
that's all..

in about two days. good to see u are all still out there.
first of all, i want each and every econo to send huge *hugs*
and *kisses* to jayne appleton who had the unfortunate experience
of missing the powdy boys at melbourne bdo. poor gal also missed
carl cox and placebo...
*hug* *kiss* *hug* *hug* *kiss* *kiss* *hug* *kiss*
*hug* *kiss* *hug* *kiss* *hug* *hug* *kiss* *kiss*
*hug* *kiss* *hug* *hug* *kiss* *kiss* *hug* *kiss*
moving right along... HUH???!!! the amazing powdies covered
the psychadelic furs?? WHERE CAN I GET MY HANDS ON THIS LITTLE
GEM?? i love that song, and if other prock covers are any
indication (ie. black fella white fella) then DAMN!! it would
be kick arse if someone could share the secret location of this
amazing occurance (and dont say napster, i'm a cd boy, and my
computer sux and cant play mp3's very well..)
all this bizzo about on5 being not as good? when i got it i
listened to it heaps, then not at all. but since seeing the
fingers play em live i dig the album even more. maybe people
dont dig it as much cos its soooo very shiney and sparkling
production wise, it aint a dirty rrrraaaaaaaawwwwkk album like
internationalist was... and damn, on5 songs are the best pf
songs i've heard live ever. they used to be good live, but i
think they have got soooooooo much better since the
internationalist tour...
and, i'm sorry to have to leave on a sad note, but the last i
heard, our boys Tim and Mez were doing the brekky shift on,
yes you guessed it, our old foes, the barstards who refuse
to play one of the mose rrrraaaaawwwwkkkking songs on on5,
MMM... just to clarify myself, no i dont listen to that
horrible horrible radio station. my sister told me (she's
very upset u know...) oh well, another one bites the dust
thats all i have to say (and more)
see ya...
ps. tim and mez, i wasnt havin a go at you, u guys are still ace...
pps. WHO WANTS TO GO TO OFFSHORE 2001 WITH ME??? lol... ben
harper and everlast are headlining.. but whats this? its not
in torquay, its not three days... that sucks, the other four
offshore were awsome...

haven't posted in ages.
i had heaps of fun at the sydney bdo. looking back i realised i saw nearly
all australian bands, which is kinda strange, considering the
o/s artists on the bill.(did see pj though! woohoo! missed the band of the
moment, coldplay, as i was shaking my tail feather at gerling).
to the merrick and rosso sitch. i read in the paper that the abc refused to
give them a pay rise, even though they'd been at jjj for three years and
spawned a whole new (well, appropriated) vernacular, and so they left.
apparently they will be doing the breakfast slot on a new radio station.
and to pia in post #309, that's ally sheedy in 'high art', you know, the
'basketcase' in the breakfast club? i do see what you mean though...
