THE JOURNEY OF ODYSSEUS: THROUGH HIS EYES

PURPOSE
The purpose of our project is to give a better understanding of how Odysseus felt during his journey. We will do this by making a web site with "diary entries" by Odysseus. These "diary entries" will tell not only what happens to Odysseus, but how he feels when they happened. We will use facts and inferences from the book and class notes to describe Odysseus' feelings throughout his trials and tribulations. Projects we think are appropriate and that have to do with our theme will be posted on the web site as well.

DESCRIPTION
The web site will contain two main sections. The first will be the "journal entries."  They will recount what Odysseus went through, and how he felt during the situation. Here is the layout for the entries so far:
1st - Troy to end of Cyclops episode - book 9
2nd - Aeolian Island to when Odysseus leaves Circe's island - book10
3rd - Underworld - book 11
4th - Back at Crice's island to Calypso's island - book 12
5th - the Pheaecians - books 8 and 13
6th - Back to Ithica - 14 book
7th - Telemachus and Odysseus' reunion - book 16
8th - Going into town to after the fight with Arnaeus - books 17-18
9th through ? - the rest of the book.
The entries will be finalized on November 24 when the whole group has finished the reading. The second main part will be the section where appropriate projects will be placed. They will have to relate to the theme of our project in some way. It cannot be a random project that we liked. The sections that will not be as crucial as the other two are the links and the home page. The home page will simply direct you to wherever you wish to go. The links section will contain links of other web sites that other groups have done.

USTIFICATION
Our project revolves around Odysseus and his journeys. It will demonstrate expertise in the sense that we will know Odysseus like the back of our hands. Our understanding of Odysseus' character will be reinforced because we will need to use the Odyssey and notes to research it. We will also have a better understanding of Odysseus' character because we will need to walk in his shoes in order to complete this project. In other words we need to think like Odysseus. The main reason we decided to do this project is because we feel that we do not get to know Odysseus as if he was a real person. His personality is expressed, but not enough. We will take what we know about him and use it to express his feelings and personality.

This web site will express our interpretation of Odysseus' feelings and personality throughout the course of his journeys in the Odyssey. It will use facts and inferences to help create a more vivid personality for the main character in the Odyssey. This web site would help people who did not understand the people who had a hard time with the Odyssey. They could look at the web site to get a better understanding of Odysseus' journey.
