| I make my way up the rugged path Athena told me too, I was on my way towards Eumeaus' house, my swineherd. When Eumeaus sees me, he sees me as a beggar, the disguise Athena gave me. Despite my appearance he still gives me hospitality, and treats me as though I have known him for a lifetime! Could he possibly see right through Athena's disguise? Could he possibly know that I am the great Odysseus?!? No he couldn't possibly know that it is me, but it still worries me... Eumeaus asks where I am from, and who are my parents. I told him that I was from Crete but I don't give him any hint of who I really am. I say that my father's name is Castor, son of Hylax, and that my mother is a concubine, I also mention that I have a pool of half brothers. I also say that I once had a fortune and much gold, but I lost it all when Zeus struck my black ship with a white hot bolt of lichening that sent my ship to the bottom of the wine dark sea. Eumeaus also tells me a story of where he is from. He also tells me that he thinks I am lost at sea and will never return home, he thinks that I am dead. After the exchange of stories Eumeaus fixed us dinner, and we slept until Dawn brought on the day. |
