| I reached the Aeolian islands Aeolus gave me a bag, and sent me off on my long voyage home. I was within sight of Ithaca, when a cruel sleep fell over me. I awoke to find a huge storm upon us. The gift Aeolus gave me had been opened! Grief came over me to loose site of my precious Ithaca. We wound up back on the Island of Aeolus. After a quick meal we went to plead with Aeolus to give us a second chance. Aeolus said why should he give a gift to a man cursed by the gods then he told me to slither on out of his palace, as if I was a snake. After six days and nights of sailing we reached the land of the Laestrygonians. Now the Laestrygonians are unlike any other men. I sent three scouts to go see who ruled the land. From what I was told they soon met a young girl, Antiphates daughter. She soon took them back to the palace where they met the queen, a huge creature herself, she soon struck terror into the hearts of my men. As the queen sent the young girl away, the king of the Laestrygonians, Antiphates, came in and snatched up one of my men and ate him on the spot. The other two managed to get away, but were soon followed by hundreds of Laestrygonians. The Laestrygonians started throwing rocks no man could throw at us, sinking all of our ships except for mine. I shouted quick orders out fearing for the lives of my crew and I, and we sped away from that horrible shore. My crew soon landed on Aeaea after the run in with the Laestrygonians. Soon after, some of my crew went on a scouting trip, and soon fell upon the palace of the seductive, temptress Circe, Queen of Aeaea. She trick the fools into a drink which turned them into a pack of swine, but one of my men, who happened to be too afraid to go in, came sprinting back to tell me of the horrible incident which had just occurred. After this newsI soon took off after my crewmen to her palace. Before I arrived at the palace, I just so happened to run into Hermes, who gave me very important advice about Circe. He advised me to take this magical herb that would grant me immunity to Circe's powerful elixir. He then advised to follow the bewitching queen to her bed, and then told me to do as she wanted for the good of my crew. He also told me to not let her strip me of my courage. With this last piece of advice in my mind, I entered her palace. Everything Hermes told me followed suit, from the drinks to the bed. How could Hermes possibly know so much detail of what would happen? Had he done it himself? Anyway, I became the woman's lover for a years time. After this she gave me to seek out the seer Tiresias. There was only one problem with this plan. I would need to go to the Underworld to find him. The next morning a one of my crewmen, Elpenor, had been drunk, and slept on the roof. When he awoke, he tried to come down the ladder, but missed his footing and soon fell to his death. After we soon learned this we set sail in a hurry to get to the Underworld |
