Africa Trip

So we are back from Africa!   We had an excellant month in Africa, the first two weeks in Tanzania and then two weeks in Rwanda.   Here is a short update on what we did...

Tanzania
The first week we spent on the YWAM (youth with a mission) base helping out with everything they do there.  This included picking beans, sorting beans, sorting rice, preparing food, cleaning the base.  As well as helping out at the vocational training school they have on base.  This is a school for local teenagers to come and learn skills (carpentry for the men, sewing for the women) so they will be able to have some kind of employment and be able to make a living.  We also helped with the preschool that they have on the base.
The second week was spent in Mukuyu village, about 3 hours drive away at the foot of the mountains.  We had all 27 of our team members crammed into a little house, two people to a mattress, sharing one little shack toilet.   In Mukuyu we spent time doing childrens ministries, prayer walking, teaching and in the evenings having big crusades where we gave testimonies and helped lead worship.

After Mukuyu we travelled to Arusha where we had a couple of days break, had some good food and went on safari.  We then travelled to Nairobi, Kenya where we stayed for one night before saying goodbye to the adult team who returned to Hong Kong.  The youth team then flew on to Rwanda.

Rwanda
The two weeks in Rwanda were spent working alongside the YWAM staff getting involved in their ministries and helping out as much as we could.  The  mornings we would spent either helping at their pre-school or working in construction (carrying buckets, painting etc).  The afternoons and evenings we would be involved in youth ministry.  They have a sports program for street kids in the local slums who we would join playing football and basketball.  They also have youth group (also called Harvesters!)  where we learnt how to do the local dance.   We had a chance to work a little bit with the HIV/AIDs ministry, mostly doing home visits.

Everywhere we went we were able to give testimonies, sing, dance and do drama.  Daniel was also able to practice his preaching 4 sundays in a row.  It was a really good trip with no major problems or sickness at all.  We had a really great team of youth, the youngest who was just 13 years old.

Now we're back in HK getting ready to start work again!
