In the Spotlight:

Mrs. Takiyah Evans (Fletcher)

 A little EXTRA:

- Former classmates I remained in contact with over the years: KENYA, JANA, & TYESHA.

- The best thing about planning the Reunion: KEEPING IN CONTACT WITH FORMER CLASSMATES.

- The worst thing about planning the Reunion: BEING THE MAIN ONE THAT IS RESPONSIBLE.

- The thing I most look forward to: I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING AS MANY CLASSMATES AS POSSIBLE.

the END!

TAKIYAH & ROBERT EVANS

CRE:

Hello Takiyah!  Let me start by saying “THANK YOU” for being brave enough to volunteer as our first person in “SPOTLIGHT.”

TAKIYAH:

No problem. It is my pleasure.

CRE:

I think the first thing people will notice is your name change.  To whom and when did you marry?

TAKIYAH

I married Robert Evans on December 30, 2000.  Robert is a 1989 Graduate of O. D. Wyatt and a 1994 Graduate of Prairie View A & M University.

CRE:

Did you have a big wedding?

TAKIYAH:

I would say that it was a pretty big wedding.

CRE:

Were any of our former classmates participants in the blessed event? (And were any invited?)

TAKIYAH:

Yes, Kenya, Tyesha and Jana were part of the event.

CRE:

Other than falling in love with a former Chaparral, what else have you done in the last 9 years?  More specifically tell us where you received your college education?

TAKIYAH:

I graduated from Alcorn State University –May 1996 and received my Masters from Dallas Baptist-December 1998

CRE

Why didn’t you stay in Mississippi?

TAKIYAH:

Not enough excitement for me. Plus I originally wanted to move to Memphis to attend graduate school at the University of Memphis.  But I ended up getting into Dallas Baptist University first.

CRE:

If you could change anything about the past 9 years, what would that be?

TAKIYAH:

I am not sure if I would change anything.  I am pretty satisfied with the way my life has turned out.

CRE:

I know that you just recently started a new position with the City of Arlington.  Can you tell us about your work for the City?

TAKIYAH:

I am the Financial System Administrator within the Finance Department.

CRE:

You seem to be on your way to a successful career and marriage.  What are your other goals for next 5 or 10 years?

TAKIYAH:

In the next 5 to 10 years…..Hopefully to keep rising to the top in my career and begin to start a family.

CRE:

A family?  Does that mean you want children?

TAKIYAH:

In about 3-5 years from now.  I just want to be able to enjoy my husband and have fun with him, before I start a family.

CRE:

Ok, tell us about the Reunion?  Can you believe it has been 10 years?

TAKIYAH:

I cannot believe it has been ten years.  But I want the reunion to be one that will not be forgotten.  And for those who do not come I want it to be a reunion they wish they had not missed.

CRE:

You and several other people have decided to plan the Class of 1992’s 10-year Reunion.  What motivated you to take on this enormous task?

[Go to Committee Members]

TAKIYAH:

Kenya Dunlop (Miller) was the motivation.  After just planning a wedding, another big event was something that I was not looking forward to doing, but the people who are on the committee are very support, cooperative and motivated.  They are the ones who are making this effort very easy.

CRE:

Can you tell us about events we can look forward to before the Reunion? And things you and the other committee members are planning for the BIG weekend?

TAKIYAH:

Currently we are working on a venue to have the banquet.  There will be a mixer, picnic and Sunday worship.  There have been small self-sponsored events for people to get together and mingle in the past months.  In addition, we have had a car wash fundraiser.

CRE:

I’m excited just talking to you about it! Ok, Takiyah, I want to thank you, again, for granting me this opportunity to focus on your life over the past 9 years.  It has been a delight and I look forward to seeing you and our other classmates in 2002.

TAKIYAH:

Thank you, I just want everyone to know that the committee is working hard to give everyone a wonderful reunion that they will not forget.

CRE:

Until then, thank you Mrs. Takiyah Evans.  I’m sure our classmates have enjoyed “seeing” you in the spotlight.
