Mrs. Annie C. Singleton is affectionately known as the
"Mother of Alpha". "Mother" Singleton is given public
recognition for her contributions to Alpha. It was in her
home of 411 East State Street that the first meeting place
was held. Mother Singleton aided in establishing the
Jewels enlightening vision of creating a fraternity ....
ANGEL ASSOCIATION
The Angels Association is one that has been around on many campuses since the early 1960's. Founded on the
principles of "Mother" Singleton's actions , the Angels were formed to aid the brothers of Alpha as well as make a positive and influential mark amongst other African-American women. Many Angel Associations on various campuses did not establish themselves as recognized student organizations at first. In 1989 when the NPHC passed a ruling stating that all Greek letter organizations were to discontinue affiliation with any auxillary organization that was an entity of the fraternity/sorority. In 1990 the ruling took efect and most Angel Associations were forced to disband ......
SHINING OF THE LIGHT
Through trying times and tribulations young women on many campuses decided that it was time to be taken seriously and reconstruct the ideal organization based on "Mother" Singleton's actions.
In the Spring of 1999 on the campus of Old Dominion University, 4 young ladies chose to bare witness to the
LIGHT OF THE HEAVENS!!!
Still this was not enough. Chapter President Angel Hall and Vice President Shaketa Cammack gave birth to the idea to become a student organization. In the Spring of 2000, 5 more young women chose to bare witness to the LIGHT!!! and on April 25, 2000 the
GOLDEN ROSES of ODU
were born. These young women strive for exceptional sisterhood, strength, support, service, scholarship, and love.

A-Sweets/Ladies of the Black & Gold etc.
We are all family and are striving together to show our love and dedication to this walk of life ...........
