NDMO PROJECT/INFORMATION OFFICER



The primary role of the Project/Information Officer is to ensure that the Nevis Disaster Management Office (NDMO) pursues its role as a provider/coordinator of Disaster related Projects and Information, in keeping with the principles of Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM). The Officer will be:

1. responsible for the management of NDMO�s Projects, and Educational and Information programs
2. required to provide assistance in the formulation of policies and programs, for disseminating information to the public on all topics related to disaster management
3. responsible for supporting and maintaining an effective public information and education programme designed to ensure maximum public understanding and awareness of disaster prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, recovery and restoration.


PROJECT DUTIES


1) Prepare, in conjunction with the Director, projects involving all aspects of Disaster Management, including making contact as required with overseas agencies, specialists or utilities on a wide range of project issues
2) Prepare and update priority list, and ascertain project & training application procedures and requirements, for all Regional & International agencies with an interest in Disaster Management
3) Review and assist in the implementation of all Disaster related Projects
4) Provide technical assistance in preparing, appraising public and private sector projects, to ensure Disaster Management considerations are adequately addressed in development programmes and projects (in liaison with other relevant agencies)
5) Maintain logs and records of project activities; compile information for regular or special reports from logs and records maintained; maintain project budgetary records and process related forms in accordance with agreed procedures.


INFORMATION DUTIES


6) Prepare public awareness and education information and meet with various community groups to educate and provide information on Disaster Management
7) Identify and utilize opportunities to promote the visibility of NDMO, including assisting in the developing and maintaining of an NDMO website
8) Prepare, disseminate and organize press releases, news items, periodic news conference and media tours as appropriate or as directed, and maintain/develop a partnership with local and regional media houses
9) Develop an Information Policy and Strategy for handling public information in the aftermath of an emergency or disaster
10) Assist in the development and organising of, and training for Seminars & Workshops on Disaster Management
11) Undertake surveys and collect data and information relevant to the preparation of Disaster Management plans, and submit reports


OTHER DUTIES

12) Liaise and consult with officials of other departments and agencies for specialised technical inputs, advice or recommendations necessary for the proper review and preparation of Disaster reports
13) Assist in the annual budget and project preparation
14) Assist in the drafting and implementation of the updated Disaster Plan for Nevis and in the development of Agency Disaster Plans
15) Report matters of interest or concern to the Director and when called upon to do so, substitute/act for the Director in his/her absence.
16) Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
