FA-Hum 08 is a regionally-oriented disaster relief exercise with the theme"Connected for Good Regional Response and Integration". It will be followed by a seminar and distinguished visitor program involving military and civilian agencies from Central America and the Caribbean Basin. It is designed to bring together experts in all aspects of disaster planning and management. FA-Hum 08 will enhance military to military, military to civilian, and civilian to civilian contacts between the participants, and encourage and promote regional cooperative engagement in disaster planning and response.

This years exercise allows the participants to test their ability to render mutual aid between countries as they may be called to do in a disaster situation under agreements of mutual assistance. In El Salvador the scenario will revolve around an earthquake and will bring together Belize, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua to work together at the request of the Salvadoran Government. Panama and Costa Rica will work together via their national emergency operations centers on a scenario of an earthquake along their shared border.
Countries of the Caribbean Basin will work together and use an avian influenza scenario to analyze their sub-regional response mechanism within the CDERA framework

Following these events all participating countries will convene in San Salvador from 11-15 May for a robust after action review, trade exposition, distinguished speaker presentations, and distinguished visitor program.

Countries scheduled to participate include: Antigua/Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panama,
St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.

Organizations scheduled to attend include: USAID-Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, Pan American Health Organization, UN-Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Conference of Central American Forces-Humanitarian Rescue Unit, the Conference of the American Armies, and more.

One of the components of this event is a trade exposition that will provide participants with an opportunity to see the latest in disaster management items and introduce participants to organizations involved in disaster planning and mitigation
