Tobias grew up in California, with the upbringing common to the upper class. In school, he proved to be a child prodigy, taking to all kinds of technology and science with a passion and skill only rarely seen in children. When he graduated from High School, Tobias was given his choice of colleges to attend, but, wishing to stay near his family, he chose to attend Berkeley, where he discovered computers, LSD, and the Grateful Dead. In his final year, Tobias Awakened while putting in an all-nighter in a computer lab. Awakening changed his outlook on things and left him lost and confused. After graduating, Tobias borrowed some money from his parents and bolted, following the road and the Dead until the seventies, when he began to see the hippie movement, which he had always admired, falling apart around him. On top of this, word reached him that his parents had both died in a freak accident. Returning to California, Tobias was given custody of his parents' estate, worth some five million dollars. At this time, too, he met up with Zacharias Nalthus, a NWO agent within the FBI who took Tobias under his wing, convincing him to join both the Technocracy and the FBI.
Tobias had a long and successful career with the Technocracy and the FBI, performing for the NWO every field position imaginable, from Man in Black, to Man in White, to Man in Gray. This earned him his codename, Kaleidoscope, just before his promotion to Director of the New Hawkinsburg field office.
Nowadays, Witherspoon lives in the desert surrounding New Hawkinsburg, in a ranch bought and maintained with his inheritance and his FBI paycheck. He spends his days working tirelessly for the FBI and protecting the world from the menace of the Supernatural. His nights he spends looking out over the desert on his back porch, drinking and mourning the fact that every step he takes forward is matched by two steps back taken by the rest of the agency.
