I bought my very first record album, 'Fancy' by Bobbie Gentry, when I was 10 years old. It has been my favorite album ever since. As a child I was entranced by the title song, and Bobbie's soulful vocals telling the story of a poor southern girl who triumphed over life's adversities (with a little encouragement from her mama).

I believed Bobbie Gentry was Fancy. I also believed she'd 'Never fall in love again', but she had herself a 'Delta man' and there was 'Something about the way he moved'. That 'Raindrops kept falling on her head' because 'The Rainmaker' had come to Kansas in the middle of a dusty day. That 'If you gotta make a fool of somebody', you'd better 'Find 'em, fool 'em and forget 'em'! And that she'd teased Joe Henry till he made a woman outta her, and she was left with 'Wedding bell blues'.

I lost track of Bobbie after Fancy, but when I got online a few years back I began looking for other recordings. I found that she wrote a lot of wonderful songs and made quite a few great albums during her short career. And I can't help thinking it ended much too soon for someone with her talents as a singer, songwriter and performer. I respect her decision to retire from music, but I am sad that we will never hear more from this enormously talented artist.

So this page is the result of gathering information via the Internet (with a lot of help from friends), and bringing it all together into one website. I welcome other Bobbie Gentry fans to contribute links, album reviews, information, etc (I'm happy to give credit for anything I post), or feel free to share it on the message board. I hope you enjoy my tribute:)

To Bobbie: Wherever you are, I hope you're doing well. Thank you so much for sharing your songs, and for singing them so beautifully!
