| Are you totally out of storage space and need some extra shelves, but have no room? Look again. With a little enthusiasm and simple building skills you can create a shallow bookcase that recedes into a wall. First, find your spot. Make sure there are no electrical wires or outlets. If there are, you will need to deal with them carefully. Cut out drywall between the studs, which should give you sixteen inches, or remove one stud for a thirty-two inch opening as high as you want. Next, build a wooden box and place the box into the opening. Secure, and trim out the actual wall where it meets the box. Paint or stain your bookcase and you have more storage for small books, pictures, or a favorite collection! - Linda Betz |
