WHEN WILL IT RAIN?
the dry dusty earth longs for rain,
the erosion of a flood,
for change.

When will it rain?
the backs of slaves are scarred,
and lips are cracked,
a thousand voices ask,

When will it rain?
a mother beats her breast
for the child
who wasn't worth saving.
racked with sobs
and chest heaving,
cries

When will it rain?
a man
with three kids,
a wife,
a mortage,
and a decrepit old dog
coughs through the factories black smog

When will it rain?
a child
who dreams of a life
with out nightmares,
or at least
when he opens his eyes
the nightmare dies,
prays

When will it rain?
a girl who feels
the weight of control,
the burden of obligation,
waits for the new life that the rain
will bring,
the washing away
of past sins

When will it rain?
the world
in ceaseless unrest,
in tyranny,
under stone throwers
and bridge burners
wonders

When will it rain?
