- Utah's Strangest Music Archive is Back On The Air!!!
Oddity
Rock Radio is back for the Summer!!! And we're celebrating the return
of 365 Days!!! now permanantly available @ www.ubu.com.
"UbuWeb
is pleased to announce the re-launch and permanent home of curator Otis
F. Odder's 365 Days Project. This legendary project, in which an MP3
a day -- of mostly outsider, novelty, and oddball recordings -- was
made available for the public to download over the course of 2003. Briefly
taken offline at the end of the project, it is now presented here in
its entirety, complete with images and vast commentary on each selection.
The 365 Days Project is part of UbuWeb's redesigned, newly-named and
much expanded Outsiders section."
As one of the former curators of this pr oject, each Saturday I'll be
playing MP3's from the entire trove of 365 Days! (as well as a few classics
and rarities of my own.) Be sure to tune in, and even make 365 Days
requests :) A filming of the radio show may be happening this Saturday
(July 10th) for an upcoming documentary, so call in and you may be part
of the film :)
Love,
Blair (aka B.C. Sterrett)

Blair (aka B.C. Sterrett)
A
farewell letter from Jody:
That's
soooooo sad that it's actually ending. You've been such a blast to
have on the radio, you are by far my favorite Radio DJ in the history
of me listening to the radio; and i'm sure no one will ever replace
you. I'm definitely going to make my cameo and fair well to you on
Saturday night after i get off of work. I think that you should totally
bring your accordion and stuff. it's be AWESOME. Give a fair well
performance of the sort. You're are no doubt one of the brighter stars
amongst the dim ones. You've made a difference in my life, that's
for sure. Thanks for being you. I reallly hope that we keep in touch
too. :-)

- Oddity Rock Radio vs The Local Landing
Hey
everyone,
This
is really short notice but I just remembered that I'm making a guest
appearance the Local Landing tonight @ 9pm on KWCR 88.1 FM. If you live
near the Ogden area, be sure to tune in as I will be sharing a TON of
local music both odd, obscure and or forgotten, from the past and present.
Utah music that I feel doesn't really get the attention it deserves.
I'll also be performing a few live numbers of my own. It should be a
huge break from all the local punk and emo stuff that usually gets broadcast.

SPECTERS OF THE SPECTRUM (16mm)
- Directed by Craig Baldwin
Agitprop genius Craig Baldwin's grandest work to date! SPECTRES OF THE
SPECTRUM plunders Baldwin's treasure trove of early television shows,
industrial and educational films, Hollywood movies, advertisements and
cartoons, combining these with live-action footage, no-budget special
effects, and relentless narration to generate a wholly original paranoid
science-fiction epic. BooBoo, a young telepath, and her father, Yogi,
are revolutionaries pitted against the "New Electromagnetic Order".
Their story, set in the year 2007 in a blighted Nevada outpost, is interwoven
with a history of the development of electromagnetic technologies, from
X-rays to atom bombs, from television to the Internet. "At once
politically charged and wildly imaginative, this unique extravaganza
confrms director Baldwin as an avant-garde superstar". -- Christian

Saturday
June 21
The
Judson Fountain Puppet Show will be performing @ Monkey Town in Provo,
UT. 315 N. & University. I'll also be there playing musical saw
for an accoustic set from The Mathew Perry Addiction Crisis. I think
this all starts at 8:30pm. This means I'll be late for the radio show,
and ORR will hopefully have a substitute DJ.
5/15/03
ORR will be back on the air this Saturday!!!
My
apologies, to anyone to tried to tune into ORR over the past couple
of weeks. We have been off the air due to contruction work in the studio.
A new sound board and more equipment is being installed.
The
show will be back this Saturday at the regular time, however I will
be gone the next weekend after that which I believe is May 24th. I'll
be in Central America on a Book of Mormon history trip!!! :) A substitute
DJ will hopefully be taking my place.
Other
News!!!
My new song entitled "Get Down!" will be featured in the
upcoming independant feature film by Loaf-I Productions! I'll be giving
a secret outdoor live performance this Saturday at 5:30pm in down town
Ogden. So if you happen to be driving around, and see someone standing
in an empty lot of grass playing accordion, come stop by and be in the
film!
That's
all for now folks!
Blair
Hey
Everyone,
The
Big Show is happening April 18th NOT May 18th!!! I'm a 4th time contributor.
Last year they showed my short film: "My Party With Broccoli".
This time Oddity Rock Radio and The Outsider Music Hour brings you "The
Judson Fountain Puppet Show"!!! I did NOT write the script like
the ad says, and the puppets were made with my friend Carrie Creighton.
We are paying tribute to Judson Fountain, and will be playing actual
recordings that he produced as a teenager during the 60's. What better
way to pay tribute to "The Ed Wood Jr. of Radio Drama", than
to act out his "drammers" with puppets!!!

Update:
Ok,
alot of you know I'm a huge fan and collector of Incredibly Strange
Films. I don't usually talk about movies on here but there are TWO in
theaters right now I feel you all should know about!
First
of all: "Willard" starring Crispin Hellion Glover!
Yeah!!!
This film is Crispin @ his Cripinest! Fans of his album "The Big
Problem" take note, this film also features a track of Crispin
singing with music by Robert Haimer of Barnes and Barnes! Jason Polland
of www.spazchow.com
has this to say:
"Artie
Barnes produced a new song with Crispin Glover!
To
coincide with the release of Crispin's new remake of the movie "Willard",
Artie and Crispin recorded a remake of the song "Ben"! The
song will be heard during the end credits, and a promotional video has
also been made!
To
see the music video, visit: www.WillardMovie.com
I've
seen this film twice now! The next best thing to "Ruben and Ed"
in a long time.
Ok,
next up:
Hayao
Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" is back in theaters AGAIN!!! As
of Friday the 28th!
This
time not just in select theaters but it's actually getting the advertizing
and attention it deserves!
Of
all of Miyazaki's films this one is probably the most unusual, and I
give it the best film of last year award! (Even though it came out earlier
than that in Japan).
If
you haven't heard about this, here's a really basic run down of the
story:
A
young girl finds herself trapped in a strange dimension of spirits.
She gets a job at a public bath house to so she can blend in unnoticed.
This also gives her time to hopefully figure out a way to save her parents
who have been turned into pigs!
Other
news I should probably mention as well:
Xanadu
Fest III!!!
The celebration of our favorite rollerskating fantasy musical of the
80's is taking place on April 4th. We're meeting 6:30pm @ the 7th Street
Skating Rink in Ogden, for those of you that live close by in Utah.
(This is also my birthday party that I'm inviting everyone too). No
drugs or alchohol. This time the film is being shown in stereo on the
big screen supplied by loaf-i.com. With the inclusion of the rare animation
short of "It's a Greek Life". For more info send me an email
@ [email protected]
Coming
Soon! Oddity Rock Radio and The Outsider Music Hour Presents: The
Judson Fountain Puppet Show!!! coming to "The Big Show" @
the University of Utah May 18th! More info to come!
There's
more to talk about but I'll save it for my next update.

ORR
update:
WHAT?!
ORR back on the air???
Yep,
that's right :) Saturday nights from 9 - 11pm KWCR Weber State's 88.1
"The Edge"
Due
to the fact that my last radio (The Sound Museum) was a little too abstract
for our (former) station manager, I've been moved back to Saturday nights
and was requested to play some of the old ORR stuff again. I figured
since I'm back in my old slot, I may as well call it Oddity Rock Radio
again, while still keeping some of the Sound Museum format.
This
may upset some people, but things are going to be just a little bit
different than before. I'm sorry, but to be totally honest: I'm tired
of novelty music (novelty music in general) that used to be a part of
the old ORR setlists. Tired of worn out punch lines, jokes (that get
old) and people saying, "listen to me I'm being funny!" Tired
of all the crass vulgarity people pass off as humor etc. Rather I'm
more into things that are more unintentionally funny, weird sounds,
field recordings, experimental artists, creative independant music,
or things I find intriuing because they're so bizarre and confusing,
(which was also all part of the show anyway). ORR promises to bring
you the same quality weirdness you expect (maybe even more), and garanteed
to continue bring floating question marks to the masses. Just taking
things to the next level.
You'll
notice the show is now only 2 hours long. This is because of my new
addition of "The Outsider Music Hour!" from 11 to Midnight.
A show which I started last September to help educate people in the
Mid-West on this fine genre, and to continue the legacy of "Incorrect
Music" by Irwin Chusid and
Michelle Boule at WFMU. Go straight to the source @ www.incorrectmusic.com
Incorrect Music may be gone but the years of archives are still available!
:)
Hopefully OMH will also have a website up soon. :)
Confused
yet? Just relax, listen in, and realize not all questions have answers
to them :)
Your
pal,
B.C. Sterrett

title and theme of show is based on Ken Nordine's "Sound Museum".)

AUGUST
24th WILL BE ODDITY ROCK RADIO'S FINAL SHOW!!!
As some of you might know, I'm now living in Provo studying animation
and making cartoons @ Brigham Young University. Seeing as I will probably
be staying here, Oddity Rock Radio will air it's final show on Aug.
24th. I will be very busy during the upcoming year which will make it
too difficult to travel to Ogden each weekend continue hosting the radio
show. I don't really see this as the end, Oddity Rock Radio will probably
show up again in some form or shape in the future. This website will
also stay up to inform you of any upcoming ORR related events.
Many thanks to everyone who has supported and contributed to ORR and
for making it such a wonderful 4 & 1/2 years!!! Who would have ever
thought it would have lasted this long! A very special thanks to Otis
Fodder, Kenji Kahara, and Korbi Povey for all their time and effort
in helping me accomplish things I could never do alone.
If anyone is interested in continuing the show you can contact me @

05/22/02
Hey everyone out there in Oddity Rock Land,
This Saturday May 25th, we will be airing our interview with Ester Nelson
(Of Miss Nelson and Bruce Haack fame), complete with music clips. Bruce
and Ester made some of the most eccentric and sophisticated children's
records in history dating back to 1963. (Not to mention his incredible
electronic and experimental solo albums!) Bruce a self taught, non classically
trained musician, could play anything! Never used notation, and often
built his own electronic instruments from scraps literally! Born in
a secluded Canadian coal mining town from a father with polio and a
very hostile mother, the story of Bruce is not only incredible but full
of passion, pain, success, failure, rejection and sorrow, with a very
tragic ending. Listen, learn, and for those already familiar with his
work, dive deeper in the story of the mysterious Mr. Haack. Truly one
of the most enigmatic, visionary, and astounding individuals of our
time. Bruce was from Outer Space! There never was and never will be
anyone like him. We here at ORR have a deep love for his work and he
will always be remembered.
B.C. Sterrett
In other news I am now engaged to a bowl of fruit salad and can't have
a single bite because that would be fornication. Official announcements

Many apologies to those who tried to
listen to ORR last saturday over the internet and couldn't get it to
work.
I didn't find out until that night but last week our station KWCR was
taken off the internet airwaves. I don't know the whole story, but I
think it has something to do with those new digital copywrite laws.
I don't think it's coming back either. Oh well, it was nice while it
lasted. It was also nice to get email from people out of state. I appreciate
knowing that several of you attempted to listen in. Thanks for all the
continued support that you've given to the show. :)
Here is the good news:
1) ORR will still continue to air on the local airwaves.
2) New set lists are up on the website!
3) The next ORR live show is will be May 3rd @ WSU with the return of
accordion geek rock band: SNMNMNM plus a couple other bands!!!
4) An upcoming interview with Esther Nelson of "Miss Nelson and
Bruce Haack" fame will be aired during the upcoming month.
5) Last weekend I finished shooting footage with Tyrone Davies for an
upcoming short film called "My Party with Broccoli", which
will be shown in a smaller "and stranger" version of the Gangrene
Film Festival this coming May in Kaysville, Utah! More details to come!
6) Only a couple more months till the next Bran Flakes album!
7) There's more but it's a surprise :)

It's official!
KWCR has talked B.C. Sterrett back into continuing the show (It was
pretty easy and didn't take very much persuasion). Oddity Rock Radio
will be back on the air this coming March! :)
This has been a much appreciated break and Sterrett has been able to
put time into some of his other projects. He is currently working a
book/cd, and short film project with collaborator Tyrone Davies (of
"Encyclopedia Esoterica" fame and director of last years independent
film "Stealing Away").
Sterrett has also been working on many new comic strips for Weber State's
Signpost. And a top secret possible collaboration with Oddity Rock Superstar
GST Mugwump is also on the drawing board.
More to come!!!
12/12/01
Hey Everyone,
This Saturday will be Oddity Rock Radio's FINAL SHOW on KWCR! (At least
for awhile) I didn't really announce this because I was tired of explaining
reasons to people. There are just some other things I need to concentrate
on that I seemed to have put off because of the radio show. I also just
need a break for awhile. This has been a very difficult decision believe
me!
I will mostly be focusing on my art, cartoons and making portfolios.
Also I hope to do some recording with my band Extra Credit for our first
album, and I am working on several books and a cd project with Tyrone
Davies and hope to do a film project as well.
Just so you know, I'm not entirely quitting radio, as I have been invited
to help out with another radio show at KRCL in Salt Lake City called
"Kickin' Judy". I just wont have to be there every week. It's
been a couple years since I last heard their show, so I'll let you know
how this works out. Keep checking out this website for upcoming news,
and I will announce the times that I will be appearing on their show
and even "substituting" for people on the radio.
Many thanks to the people and co-hosts who have supported and contributed
to this show over the past 3 and half years! And a very special thanks
to all of my listeners!!! You have all been very wonderful and the reason
why the show has lasted as long as it did.
But who knows? This show may be back on the air next summer or broadcasting
from another state or station next year. :)
See you on Saturday!- B.C. Sterrett
12/9/01

I've never announced this but you can now here the ORR interview with

in real audio @ www.coolandstrange.com

and music clips!
