Summary:  Alex knows his mum is sad, and tries to find a way to make her happy again.

Note:  Ive done so many stories of Alex as a hellion, just wanted to do one that puts him in a better light.

Added note:  This is for all the ones who we miss, who we think of, who puts a smile on our faces.  If it doesnt make since its more for me..Im just a strange sentimental bird.   I didnt take this idea from other locket story promise.  I have a locket of my mom who is not with me, and it was given to me by my other mom who watches out for me, so thats sort of where I got this idea,  the other sort of was something a friend told me..Friend knows who she is, and hope, doesnt mind me using this.

The Ones we Miss.

It had been a long, hectic day at the museum.  Nothing had gone right, and Evelyn was glad that the day had come to an end.  Oh the day had started out wonderful for her.  She and Rick had made love before getting up to start their day, and that was always the best part.  For once in his life Alex had behaved,  and they had gotten through breakfast without any problems.  It was when she arrived here at her museum, her home away from home, that the day began to change.  The first big problem that was waiting for her, was the fact that a shipment from there to Egypt had not been sent yesterday.  She found Daniel loafing again in the Library, and really let him have it about not being responsible, then went to send it herself.  The day just moved on at a snails pace, with each new problem causing her more heartache and stress.  Now she was walking out the door when the heal on her shoe broke, and she fell, papers going everywhere.  She screamed very loud, happy that no one was there to hear her.  After gathering her papers to her, she reached down to hold her Locket, and found that it was gone.  Panic went straight through her.  That locket never got taken off except when she was in the shower, but she knew she had put it on today, and ran back to her office searching for it frantically.  It wasnt there, and she felt hot tears begin to role down her face.  It was someplace, and she was not leaving here until she had it in her hands.

At home it was getting late.  Alex was ready for bed, playing on the parlor floor, while they waited for mum to come home.  He had been good today, and Rick hoped that maybe he was out growing the said Terrible Two phase of his life.  He already had on his pajamas, his favorite, the ones with the feet, the ones he called his Feety Pajamas  His hair was still wet from his recent bath, parted at the side, and already sticking up, Rick noted, as he looked over at his little boy.  Alex got up and walked over to his daddy.

Unt mum,  Alex said.  Rick lifted his son onto his lap, and Alex snuggled against his chest.  When he looked at the clock, he noticed it was late, and idly wondered if her car was acting up again.  He stood and carried Alex to the front hall, getting his coat out of the closet and putting it on him, then put his own coat on, got the keys, and went to his car.  After settling Alex in the back, and getting settled in himself, he started the car and they were off to the museum.

The museum was vast, and she had been all over it today.  Now she was in the Egyptian section, sitting next to one of the statues sobbing.  She had lost her locket, and she felt like she had lost both her parents all over again.  It was rare that she missed them so much, now that she had a family of her own, but having a day such as today, and loosing her locket, brought the feelings of loss crashing down upon  her small body.  That locket had been given to her by her mother, to always keep close when she needed them, when they werent there.    A ways away, Rick entered with Alex asleep against his shoulder.  He went up to her office where the playpen was, gently laying  Alex there, then went back down the steps, and  went to his wife.

Hey.  He helped her stand then gathered her into his strong arms letting her cry against him, worried for her.  Evelyn rarely ever got this upset, and he knew it had to be something major for her to be so distraught.  He swayed gently, rubbing her back, and kissed the top of her head.

Shhh, Ive got you,  he said softly.  In a few moments she composed herself, and eased away from him, looking up at him with watery eyes, and tears still streaming down her face.  Rick leaned in and kissed both of her eyes , then each cheek, then her lips,  in a gently, loving soothing way, giving her strength that she needed.

I cant find my locket,  she finally said.  He knew how much that locket meant to her.

Are you sure you had it on this morning?  She nodded, then frowned

Where is Alex?  He took her back into his arms.

In his playpen.  When did you last remember having it on? he asked hoping to help her retrace her steps.  Evelyn though a moment.

I had it on after lunch.  I went down to the storage room and was lifting boxes trying to sort through some things there.  She took his hand and they went to the stairs and down.  Alex was safe where he was, and once asleep hardly anything ever woke him.

In her office Alex did wake up, and sat in the playpen looking at his picture book, which is what he was doing when his father came  for him.  Upon hearing his footsteps, Alex stood.

Out.  Rick picked him up and Alex snuggled against him.

Mum go?

She is on her way home, just like we are.  Alex yawned and rested his head against Ricks shoulder.  They had been unable to find the locket, and Evelyn had told Rick she didnt want Alex to see her so upset, and left for home.  When they got into the car, Alex held something in his hand, something Dad didnt know he had.  When he woke up in his playpen he had found her locket right next to him, and since he found  it, he wanted to be the one to give it back to her.  Car rides at night got Alex to sleep, and this night Alex fought that, with all he had.  His eyes would shut, and his head would fall forward, then he would wake himself up again.  When they arrived home, he was still awake which surprised his father.  Rick lifted him out of the car, not noticing that his small baby hand was closed around something.  Once inside  Alex smiled as his mum came to greet them.  She had on night gown, and he struggled for Rick to put him down.

Mum got for oo.  Alex walked over to her and pulled on her hand.  She positioned it open, noticing that he was holding something.  Lifting his tiny hand, he placed it in hers and opened it letting the locket fall on to her open hand.

She gasped, and held it up getting dads attention.

Alex where did you find this, she said, her heart now flooding with relief.

It in my bed at oo offs.  Evelyn lifted him into her arms, crying tears of joy this time.

Oh my sweet boy, you made mum very very happy.  Alex pulled away and grinned, one that was just like is fathers.

I did?  She nodded and kissed his little nose.  At that Alex turned to Rick.

Daddy,  I gave mum my happys,  Alex said, then laid his head on her shoulder ready to go to sleep.  They both took him to bed, tucking him in his new big boy bed.

Mum?

What my sweet baby boy?  she said settling next to him.

I unt always give ou happys, he said, with a serious look on his little face.  Evelyn kissed his forehead.

You always give me happys.  Now go to sleep.  He nodded and rolled onto his stomach, balling up so that his bottom stuck in the air.  Both his parents stood at the door watching him for a moment, then  Rick guided her out into the hall closing the door.

Now its my turn to give you happys,  he said in a very suggestive tone.  He lifted her into his arms, and carried her into their room, shutting the door with his foot.  As he placed her on the mattress she handed him her locket, and first thing in the morning she would go get a new clasp put on it.  Right now, though, she was more interested in Ricks idea of giving her happys, and her wait was not long.  His love was a tender reminder to her, of the greater love she had for all of her family, and she knew as long as she had that, she would weather all the sad times of her life, never having to be alone
