Dames Ferry
No, I wasn't in the boat. This is literaly the worst of it on this section. I'm told its a class II but only if there's a good deal of water I imagine. This is directly below the hwy 18 bridge. A great view is, in fact, from the hwy 18 bridge. From there you'll notice that there is an incredibly large set of shoals river left (which is like dragging your boat over a parking lot but you might have to do what you might have to do), an island in the middle (which has a small, hidden campsite on it) and this rapid river right. There is no good place to park or get out or get in at this location but I can tell you that there are agencies working hard to change that.
Most kayakers put in at Popes Ferry and paddle up river about a mile or two to this rapid. I've done it myself, there is only one set of shoals you have to get through backwards which during higher water isn't too hard. The only hazard there, other than the dirt road down to it, is the rednecks at Popes ferry and they're always nice to me. There's a rope swing for swimming and lots of room for parking in the trees
We can handle this. It's little.
Uh oh!!!!!
Hey, my lunch is floating away.
