Down-town Macon Rocks
This is great place for exercise or just showing off your moves. There's a park along the river called "river walk". Its a really nice place to picnic, jog, walk, read the Sunday paper or just relax. The only draw back is the lack of bathrooms but there are a few restaraunts in walking distance. Also I don't think I would go there at night.
Thanks to local outdoor clubs the river is clean and clear of trash. Generally the water is shallow enough to get out and walk, though at certain times of day the level rises consideraly. I know it is due to the releasing of water at the Juliett Dam but I don't know the schedule yet. I'll put a link here soon.
The bottom is sandy so you will need to watch for sand bars. I have only sighted one animal, an otter, and I can't be 100% positive of that.
I will tell you that a handful of archeologist have been diving the river looking for signs of old steamboat landings. There is a lot of history in Macon. The Ocmulgee River has been a source of commerce and trade for over a hundred years. Again I'll attach a link here soon.
