Oskayak Cultural Journey
"A journey instilled with traditional teachings, cultural values, bonding and learning; what we do today carries us into our future, it's time to start caring."
INTRODUCTION
The population and the crime rate in Pelican Narrows for the youth has been steadly rising in our community for a number of years now.  Our community has been concerned in the state of our youth, and we want to address the issue before it gets out of hand.  We intend on achieving this through the Oskayak Cultural Journey with the use of Elders and community members and concerned orginizations.  Our goal is to provide the youth with a healthy life style to be followed up with the support of the community.

OSKAYAK VISION
We as a group have noticed that the youth have been lacking in knowledge in thier culture, Language and Traditional Values.  Therefore, we set out as a group to identify the youth who are out of touch with thier cultrue, language and traditional values.  Our goal is to teach them life skills such as, Respect for themselves, others and the land, Team building, Personal Counselling, Hunting wild game, Fishing, as well as being tought to prepare thier catch.  However, most important of all they will be taught skills so that will help to abstain from the use of solvents, alcohol, drugs and sex.
The group who are to embark in this journey, are high risk youth along with Elders with traditional skills, cultural values, cree language and abstain from the use of alcohol and drugs,  The elders are to paddle, following the traditional waterways.  Along the way the youth will be taught the teachings from the elders necessary life skills , honesty, good morals, respect & traditional values rooted more into respect for thier culture, land and respect for themselves and others.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS
The Oskayak Cultural Journey Committee is composed of people who care for the community's youth, adults and elders.  We are more than willing to do what is necessary to make Pelican Narrows a better place to live; a community it used to be.
