Imaging!

Putting images up on your site can make a huge difference in the traffic you get. It makes your site more interesting to look at and trust me, no one wants to go on a site with just words. It gets really boring. Anyway, here's how ya do it.

When you find a picture that you really like and want to put on your site, you should, as courtesy for the owner of the picture, ask their permission first. After you have gotten their permission, unless you are on expage, you can go to your file manager and click the "Upload" button somewhere on your screen. Once you've done that, click "Browse" and find the picture or music or whatever it is you are uploading. Your picture MUST have a name that does NOT have a space in it and the name MUST end in .jpg or .gif. To find out more about the music portion, click here.

Anyway....once you have your image, look at the image title. Suppose your image title is "fridge.jpg". Also, lets assume that you are using Yahoo/Geocities and your screen name is...oh...hithere95. So, in order to get your picture, fridge.jpg, you need to do more HTML. Here it is.<img src="http://www.geocities.com/hithere95/fridge.jpg">That's all it is. That wasn't too hard! Just put that wherever you want your picture to be, and you got your pic!!! Say you have a load of pictures and webages in your file manager. It's really hard and cofusing with all of them just scrambled together!! So you can create another folder, or a "subdirectory". Say you want one for your pictures. When you click "Create Subdirectory" or whatever it is you need to do, type in "pictures" in the little box. That will create a folder called pictures. When that is made, just move all of your pictures into that folder. When you do the HTML this time, its going to be a bit different. <img src="http://www.geocities.com/hithere95/pictures/fridge.jpg">Since that is really long, you can also do it another way. Instead of making the whole URL, only put the part after your domain. That means for fridge.jpg, thats the only part you put in after the "img src". Unless of course you have a subdirectory. Then you would only puit in "pictures/fridge.jpg". Get it? Good. Email me if you have any questions. That makes things a little easier. Now, suppose you wanted to place your image somewhere on the page...
