What do I need for TAG?
For organizational purposes, all TAG students will need a spiral or composition notebook and a folder with pockets for use throughout the year.  Also, we encourage students to bring filled water bottles to help keep the brain hydrated and running smoothly.
Middle School
Gifted services in the middle school extend the middle school curriculum and take into consideration the academic, social, and emotional growth of the student.  TAG classes are part of the student's daily schedule.  Middle school class size is limited to 21 students.  Grades are earned in the content area(s).  Middle school students receive gifted services in one to four advanced core content classes.  Gifted students are placed in advanced content courses on the basis on achievement scores, past academic performance, and teacher recommendation.  In addition to eligibility requirements, students must also meet placement criteria:  "B" average or better for previous school year in the content area, test scores within the past two years at or above the 90th percentile.  Math placement is determined by the general education teacher based upon system guidelines.
What do we study in TAG?
TAG units are based on the Fulton County Learning Objectives:  Advanced Research, Creative Thinking/Problem-Solving, Critical Thinking, Advanced Communication Skills.  We will do three units a year, each lasting about 11 weeks.  The units are designed by Fulton County TAG teachers to extend the science and social studies curriculums and reinforce the QCC/GPS objectives of the regular education program.
How are TAG students assessed?
TAG students will received Progress Skills Checklists from their TAG teacher three times a year.  They will be sent home at the completion of each unit (Nov., Feb., May).  Students do not receive grades in TAG, but are assessed with S(satisfactory), N(needs improvement), or NE(not evaluated) for their progress on the learning objectives.  Assessments are based on tteacher observation of students' class participation, students' writings in Learner's Log, teacher observation of students' contribution to team activities, and assessed papers in work folders.  Parent conferences will be held at the end of the year to confirm continued placement in the program.  Parents are encouraged to check with their children on TAG day to review the daily agenda.
