Tombstone inscriptions were copied in 1990-1991 under the direction of Genealogical Records Chairman, Jeanne MacLardy.
Oceanview Memorial Park, also referred to as Oceanview Cemetery, was formerly known as the I. O. O. F. or Oddfellow's Cemetery. It is located on Hill Street at Godfrey, one block South of Oceanside Blvd., Oceanside, California.
According to "The San Diego Union" of 10 March 1895, "The Oceanside Odd Fellow's Cemetery association filed articles of incorporation in the country clerk's office yesterday." Burials appear to have begun on or shortly before the turn of the century and continued until the late 1980's. This cemetery has non-endowment care.
Reading of the tombstone inscriptions were conducted in the following manner. The cemetery was divided into four sections designated as N.W., N.E., S. W., & S. E. North and south were divided by the path, and east from west by an imaginary line drawn from where Freeman St. intersects Godfrey. Each row begins with number 1 at the path. At the time this work was done, the plot maps were not available, otherwise the same method would have been followed.

[This fact was noted by Kristi Hawthorne, Archivist of the Historical Society of Oceanside.]
Ref. George R. Bronson - From the December 21, 1888 issue of the newspaper South Oceanside Diamond, "On Friday last a monument was placed upon the grave of George Bronson, in Buena Vista Cemetery. The work was done by J.H. Smith of San Diego." This grave was apparently moved from that cemetery into the I.O.O.F. in later years, perhaps the turn of the century. [Also noted by Kristi Hawthorne mentioned above.]

The mausoleum is rectangular in shape. The door is at one end, there being three layers to accomodate coffins along the two side walls and the end. They were then covered with a sheet of marble to close the wall. Metal plates are attached to those sheets with the name of the deceased and, in most cases, their birth and death year. The survey was taken by beginning at the left of the door, working from top to bottom along that wall, to the end, and back up the right wall back to the door.
There are a number of markers that have obviously been removed. To preserve any possible family connections remaining, the placement of each is indicated, then simply marked chronologically. [T=top, M=middle, B=bottom, dm=double marker, tm=triple marker, WRC=Womens Relief Corps]
