Physical Description:
Although he may not be the most gorgeous man on Pern, L'don would rank at the top of the most "eye catching". He's got a dangerous, mysterious look about him that never fails in catching the attention of most women, from the most naive and unworldly hold girls to the most sensual greenriders. His hair is a dark brown, almost black, colour and is short, although not quite a buzz cut. L'don's eyes are of the blackest colour, and hide his emotions better than most people's. (The secret to understanding his emotions is paying very close attention to everything he does and piecing it together...because he doesn't like people to know what's going on with him, so he doesn't let things slip easily, even through body language.) He's got a crooked nose that looks like it had been broken at least one time before and a thin, powerful mouth. He has broad shoulders and an athletic, muscled build. He reaches somewhere around 6'1" and weighs about 178 pounds.

He prefers to wear comfortable leathers-actually, he loves anything leather. If a person were planning on buying him a present, an ideal one would be leather boots or new leather pants. If he had gotten tanner training when he was younger life would have been perfect for him. Sometimes, when it's really hot outside he can be caught wearing an airy, light sleeveless shirt usually in dark colors. And even more rarely in light colours. The guy had something against light colours. Or maybe he just thinks it doesn't complement his features much. Heh. So maybe not that one.

Background:
Born to the Lord Holder's lover/mistress, Landon (as he was called before the honorific) was always viewed as somewhat "below" the other children at the Hold. His mother died giving birth to him, being small and young. The only reason that he wasn't sent away after her death was Lord Holder Moeric feeling that he owed something to his lover.

As such, he had never gotten along well with any of the other holdbrats, especially the Lord Holder's legitimate son, who was about the same age as he was. Clae never let the opportunity to rub fate in his half brother's face pass by. There were not a small number of fights that erupted between the two, but Landon was always more harshly punished than Clae. After a while, people began blaming small things that went wrong on him...if something was missing, they said that he'd stolen it. He didn't mind too much, or even try to deny it, because he didn't care what they thought of him. Of course, he didn't think of the impact that it would have on him later on in his life and how everything would follow him, even false accusations. He quickly became known as "bad luck" and nobody wanted anything to do with him.

Landon learned to take care of himself at a young age and was very independent; if someone offered or tried to help him he'd proudly refuse any help. He developed a detached personality and became a loner, not wanting anything to do with other people. He was put to work as soon as he was able to, so he would be "out of people's way". The boy worked in the hold, then in the fields and with animals, etc.

When Landon was around the age of 17, the daughter of a powerful Holder arrived at the hold. She was there to get to know the heir of the Hold, and nobody talked about anything but the marriage that they would be seeing in a year or two. Her name was Bryana, and she was the first woman to catch Landon's specific attention. Maybe it was because she was supposedly "for his half brother", and they'd always competed over everything. Or perhaps it was just because he was attracted to her. Either way, she returned his feelings of interest, and a passionate, secret affair began between the two and continued through her marriage to Clae.

However, no secret stays that way forever and a couple of months after the marriage, about a year after the deception had began, Clae finally found out what had been going on behind his back. He was furious about the whole affair, but none of it was let reach any gossiping ears. Landon was sent away by the Lord Holder to a Hold that was indebted to Telgar Hold where he would be away from the "happy" couple.

From there, he hopped from Hold to Hold, never staying for a long time because of the opinion that people seemed to have formed of him and their eagerness to blame things on him, then send him off. Landon became something of a "jack of all trades", doing whatever was needed to earn the money that he needed to survive.

The final straw was pulled when he arrived at a minor Hold that looked to Telgar and was blamed for the consecutive rape of a couple of young girls. When he spoke up against it, shocked and enraged, it was the first time that he had ever outwardly opposed anything that he had been accused of doing. Landon instantly understood what had happened, though, but kept his mouth shut about the truth. If he had spoken up, the Holder might have gone to greater lengths to make people believe that it had been him. As it was, it hadn't taken but a couple of seconds for heads to start turning his way. He had been the perfect scapegoat, and in a way, it was partly his fault for letting himself become that way. He hadn't been convicted, because there hadn't been enough evidence. Landon knew that that wouldn't have mattered anyway, if the Lord Holder hadn't been his father and believed that he was innocent of the crimes he had been accused of.

After that, Landon never stayed in a Hold for any longer than absolutely necessary-not that anyone hired him unless they had to anyway-and kept as far away from people as possible. This kept on for a couple of months, and the theory that rumors followed a person everywhere was most definitely proven true. It was only by chance that he was at Oceanside Hold at the same time as a search dragon. He had been going to meet a tanner to pick up some leather boots that he'd specially ordered made and had been surprised to hear the dragonrider step up to him and tell him that the rider's search dragon had spotted him as a good candidate for the dragonets that would be Hatching soon at Oceanside Weyr. And who was he to pass up a chance at a new life? That is, if the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman didn't kick him out like everyone else...but he certainly wasn't prepared to just walk out without having his say.

At the hatching, Landon Impressed brown Syreth, a fun loving, cute (and rather small) brown dragonet. The only problem is that he thought he was a blue, something that L'don didn't think was very...becoming in a dragon.

Personality:
Strong-willed and determined, L'don won't let something he wants just pass him by. He's independent and has a survivalist instinct that has saved him many times. While he is reserved and a loner, he is in no way afraid to speak up and put in his opinion, if he wants to (which can be a problem, since he tends to only do something if *he* wants to). Something else that can get him into trouble is the fact that he's not timid about speaking up to his superiors-in fact, he probably challenges them more than anyone else. Anyone inferior to him is, in his opinion, just that: weak. And L'don's never had much care for weak people who are too shy to speak up for themselves. He can be quite an asshole at times, and doesn't care what people really think of him or call him either to his face or behind his back. Although the people who call him names to his face usually earn a certain amount of respect from him, which is unusual.

His key personality traits would be...strong-willed, arrogant, proud, independent, determined, reserved, shrewd, self-assured, survivor, and bastardly. Yup. That's him.

Dragon:

Name: Syreth
Color:
Brown
Age:
weyrling
Appearence:
Syreth is a light brown, a little darker then a coffee with milk in it. His muzzle however will be a dark, dark brown. And hell have dark, dark brown splotches around his wing, and his wings will be a darker brown, not a lighter brown then his body. Maybe the splotches will go away maybe not, its hard to tell. Hes on the small side for a brown and probably will always be that way. But hell be sleek and quick, though his personality might not make him a wing second, perhaps his skills will.
Personality:
Syreth, wellhes different. He sort of matches the name of his egg. He would like to think hes a blue; hell spend a lot of time trying to convince him and others that hes a blue. Why.well.were not quite sure, maybe hes color blind and sees only blue, but its pretty obvious that hes a brown. Hes very social and not shy at all. Hell talk to just about anyone if theyll listen, weather it a green or a gold, doesnt matter to him. Hell be very klutzy and very curious, constantly wandering off to check things out. Youll spend a lot of your time trying to prove to him that hes a brown. Weather you succeed or not, wellits up to him. But hell be pretty oblivious to much thats going on around him. The sky could be falling and hell be pretty aloof. How he passes his lessons is beyond us, but hell manage to show agility and speed in their air that will be hard to top, why cant he be that way on land?
