Chapter One
    "Wake up, sleepyhead! Come on!"
I mumbled incoherently and rolled over.
"No, don't do this to me, Ocean! You gotta get up!"
I opened my eyes to little slits. "What?"
My best friend standing above me, grinned. "Don't you remember?"
I rubbed sleep out of my eyes. "Remember what?"
"We're meeting people today...*special* people," Rainbow said.
I thought for a moment, then I was wide awake. "Is that today?"
"Yes!" Rainbow exclaimed. "We're meeting them at ten. Get up!"
I threw the covers off my bed and raced into the bathroom, turning on the shower, not believing today was the day. I stepped into the shower, reliving the moment when Rainbow and I had won a radion contest, having no clue whatsoever what the prize was....
"Okay, Rainbow and Ocean...one more right answer and you win the special mystery prize!" the deejay said. "Are you ready?"
     "Yes!" Rainbow exclaimed.
"Here we go-name the first and last songs on all three of  'N Sync's CDs," he said.
Rainbow and I looked at each other with wide eyes. "Oh! 'Tearin Up My Heart' and 'Giddy Up' on the first CD," I said.
"Umm...'Home For Christmas' and 'Kiss Me At Midnight' on their second," Rainbow continued.
"And uhh 'Bye Bye Bye' and 'I Thought She Knew' on the new one," I finished. We both held our breath, anticipating our prize.
"Right on!" the deejay exclaimed. "You girls got all three CDs' first and last songs in the correct order. And you've won the prize!"
Rainbow and I squealed in excitement. "What is it?"
"As you probably already know, 'N Sync are coming to our little corner of California... and you two have won front and center tickets to the concert *and* you get to spend a day with the guys while they're here," the deejay said.
     "Are you serious?" I asked.
     "Of course!"
Rainbow and I started screaming and jumping up and down. "Oh my gosh! Oh my *gosh*!"
I smiled to myself as I stepped out of the shower and pulled my bathrobe on.
Rainbow pounded on the door. "O, you done yet? I need to take a shower too!"
I opened the door and breezed out. "All yours, R."
Rainbow and I were roomates at our college, Berkley. We had been best friends all through high school and had gone through just about everything with each other-guys, friends, fights, tragedies. You name it, we'd probably say, "Been there, done that" with a grin at each other. Rainbow was older than me-by four months and twenty-two days to be exact. She was twenty-one and I was still twenty, anxiously waiting for my April birthday to arrive.
We were so close in both the physical aspect and the mental/spiritual aspects it was creepy. Sometimes we'd wear the exact same outfit without telling each other, sometimes we'd write the same thing to one another or *about* the same thing, we used to like the same guys. The odd coincedences were almost uncanny.
I crossed the room to our CD player and put the new 'N Sync CD, No Strings Attached, on. Humming, I picked out my outfit for the day that lay ahead. I chose my  most comfortabel but stylish outfit-a black Japanamation t-shirt over a green longsleeve shirt with dark blue pants that adjusted at the bottom and at the waist. Just as I slid on my snowboarding vest, Rainbow came out of the bathroom wearing almost the same outfit-a dark blue O'Neill longsleeve shirt with the same dark blue pants and her snowboarding vest.
We just stared at each other. "Oh man!"
I just waved my hand. "Oh well. We have to hurry-it's almost nine-thirty.."
We sat there talking and laughing about our high school 'N Sync experiences and how *now* I thought JC was the hot one and Rainbow still thought Lance was cute.
Someone knocked on our door and Rainbow and I jumped to our feet and shrieked, "It's him!"
I opened the door to find a six foot blond haired, blue eyed guy standing there-Deejay Steve- the guy we had talked to on the radion to win the contest.
     Steve grinned. "Rainbow and Ocean?"
"That'd be us," Rainbow said with a smile.
"Are you guys ready to go meet 'N Sync?" Steve asked.
     "Oh yeah!" I exclaimed.
Steve led us out of our third story dorm room, and out of the building to a long black limo parked by the entrance.  "A limo?" Rainbow squeaked. "We get to go in a limo?"
"Of course!" Steve said, opening the door for us. "Here we go!"
All the way to the guys' hotel, Rainbow and I were exploring the limo and commenting on how nervous we were-look at our shaking hands! "You brought the stuff for them, right?" Rainbow asked nervously as the hotel came into view.
I held up the bag. "Of course, Rain. How could I forget it?"
"Knowing you and your memory..." Rainbow trailed off as the limo pulled into the parking lot and Steve opened our door.
"Here we are, O and R," Steve announced as we stepped out into the dazzling sunshine. Steve led us inside the hotel as Rainbow and I kept squealing," Oh my gosh."
At one of the top floors we finally stopped at a door. Steve knocked on it loudly.
A muffled voice came from in the room. "When do I get paid?"
     "Friday night," Steve replied.
The click of a lock unlocking and the door opened. Chris's smiling face appeared. "Hey Steve, what's up man?"
"I've got 'N Sync's girlfriends for today!" Steve said.
     "Rainbow and Ocean?" Justin shouted.
"Yup. Mind if I keep 'em for awhile?" Steve asked.
Joey shoved open the door. "No way, Steve. Nice try."
"They're *our* girls today," Lance said, appearing next to Chris.
"Can we get a *look* at them first?" JC asked, rubbing his eyes tiredly.
Steve ushered us into the room. "Here they are...Ocean and Rainbow!"
All of a sudden, we were standing in front of Justin, Chris, Joey, JC and Lanc and they were all smiling and saying hi, sticking their hands out for handshakes.
"Hey, I'm Justin," Justin said with a big grin that showed his perfect white teeth.
     I smiled. "I'm Ocean."
"Aw, come here," Joey said and hugged both Rainbow and me.
"I'm Chris," Chris said, politely shaking Rainbow's hand.
     "I'm Rainbow," Rainbow replied.
"You know me as JC," JC said with a smile.
Lance pushed in front of JC and smiled at me. "I'm Lance. You two have awesome names.""Thanks," Rainbow and I said at the same time.
"Ocean," Lance said, turning to me. "Did you know I love the beach?"
"Of course I knew that. I love the beach too," I replied. JC was engaging Rainbow in conversation and they both laughed.
"Well, i see that you all are properly acquainted. I suppose I should scoot on out," Steve said.
     "Thanks, Steve," everyone chorused.
"No prob, guys. Have fun," Steve replied and shut the door on his way out.
"What's in the bag?" Chris asked, pointing to the bag I was clutching in my now still hands.
"Oh! We've got stuff for you guys," Rainbow said, pulling out a gift bag. "JC, we went up to Whistler BC and we got a bunch of Hard Rock menus. JC took the bag and began sifting throught the contents.
I pulled another gift bag out. "Lance, we know you love the beach and Taz, so here you go." We gave Chris a talking Taco Bell dog (stuffed of course), Joey a Superman dool that looked exactly like him and Justin a Lakers jersey.
"Oh my gosh! Thank you so much, you two! We'll take this stuff with us on the road with us-this is so great! Thanks, you guys!" Justin gushed.
"I love this! This is so cute!" Lance exclaimed, showing everyone the sand pail and shovel with Taz inside the bucket.
"Busta! Busta! Come here!" Chris whistled. A little dog came running  and Chris bent down, pushing the button to make the Taco Bell dog talk. Busta yipped and backed away slowly. We all laughed.
"So, um, how long are you guys staying here?" I asked.
"Uh, about two or three days," Joeysaid.
"I'm spending as much time as possible on the beach," Lance added.
"Oh, the beached here are awesome. The ocean is this blue green color you can't find anywhere else and-" I was cut off by Justin.
"Guys, let's go get some breakfast. I'm hungry," Justin said.
"Good idea," JC agreed and all seven of us trooped downstairs accompanied by Lonnie, their security guard. We piled into another limo where I ended up sitting next to Lance and Justin-Rainbow was between JC and Joey.
Once we were settled in and the limo was movin, Joey asked, "You two seem really close-how long have you guys been friends?"
"Oh my gosh, like forever," I said.
"Umm...since about seventh or eighth grade," Rainbow said.
"I also noticed you guys are dressed kinda alike," Chris commented. "Did you plan that or what?"
Rainbow and I shook our heads. "Nope. We've planned it like that exactly once and that was in our freshman year of high school," Rainbow said.
"And since then we've dressed alike off and  on with out telling each other," I added. "We're so close it's not even funny."
"That's reallly cool to have a friendship that strong," JC said as Justin's cell phone rang.
"Hello?" Justin answered. "No! Tell her *no!* I'm not going *anywhere* with her!"
"Who was that?" Lance asked as Justin hung up the phone.
"Britney?" Chris guessed.
Justin nodded. "She's loving in a dreamworld, man. She *thinks* we're going out and stuff, but we're *not.*"
"Are you serious? Those rumors about you and Britney going out aren't true?" Rainbow asked, her eyes wide.
"They are totally totally false. Nowhere near the truth," Justin confirmed. "Media...paparazzi, they get bored."
"We have *never* liked her," I said and Joey gave me a high-five.
"Right on!" Chris exclaimed. "We only act cozy with her for the cameras. In reality, we stay *far* away from her."
"And now she's stalking me," Justin concluded. "She's asking me out and sending flowers and stuff-it's getting annoying!"
"I'll bet," Rainbow murmured as we pulled up to the restaurant.
And so the rest of the day was spent hanging out at the restaurant and then going to the events center to start the soundcheck. The guys taught us their dance moves and I was having trouble getting some things just right.
"Oh my gosh! I lost all my dancing talent today!" I exclaimed in half frustration, half humor.
"Hey, don't worry about it. I suck at dancing," Lance said with a grin.
"Oh, whatever. Your dance moves are perfect," I muttered, trying to execute the move once more. Once again, I messed it up.
"Okay, here. I'll help you out," Lance offered. He came up behind me and gently placed his hands on my hips and guided me through the motions. "Think you got it now?
I thought for a minute. "Hmm...like this?"
"No, it's more like this," Lance said, once again placing his hands on my waist and moving my body along with the music.
"Oooh-kay. I think I got it now," I said, thinking how I should maybe say I *didn't* get it so that Lance could possibly put his hands on me again...That reminded me of a Christina Aguilera song...I just know when you put your hands on me, I feel...
Whoa, wait a minute! What was I thinking? This was the guy *Rainbow* thought was hot! I looked over at her and saw her flirting with JC. But I still felt bad about being where Rainbow should have been.

After the kick butt concert, Lonnie stopped Rainbow and me on our way out. "The guys wanna see you."
"Um, okaay," I said.
Lonnie grinned. "It's not bad, trust me. Come on." He led us to a room in back where the guys were inhaling food and water to no end.
"Hey! There they are!" Chris exclaimed.
"How'd you two like the show?" Justin asked as Joey picked Rainbow up off the ground in a bear hug.
"It was great! You guys delivered the best, as usual," I said as Lance smiled at me.
"Thank you so much. We were so relaxed tonight because we were with you guys all day," Lance said.
"Why does being with *us* make a difference?" Rainbow asked,
"You guys aren't weird like other fans are..." Joey said.
"Yeah, you act totally normal around us and treat us like normal, everyday guys, not gods," JC eplained further.
"Well you *are* normal, everyday guys," I replied.
"We just wanted to thank you for that," Justin said. "This has been an awesome day."
"Uhh, can we have your guys' phone numbers?" Lance asked. "So we can um, keep in touch?"
"Sure," Rainbow and I said and gave them our phone numbers. In our room, we had separate phone lines so we wouldn't tie up each other's lines. We also had another line for the internet.
"Once again, thank you guys so much for the awesome and relaxing day," Lance said.
"Thank *you* for letting us spend it with you," I repled. "Um, feel llike taking a few pictures?"
"Of course," Chris said.
Twenty minutes and two and a half rolls of film later, Steve came in. "Hey everyone. R and O, your limo awaits."
"Okay. We'll be there in a minute," Rainbow said. The guys hugged us goodbye and told us they'd keep in touch-maybe even call us tomorrow. Rainbow and I waved goodbye to 'N Sync and Lonnie, then went out with Steve and entered our limo.
"Did you guys have a good time?" Steve asked.
Rainbow and I nodded. "Yes, we had a *great* time. Thank you so much for giving this to us."
"You're welcome. It was my pleasure-you guys are great," Steve said as the limo pulled up to our dorm building. "Well, I guess I'll see you two lovely ladies around. Bye!"
Rainbow and I entered the building calmly, waiting to unleash our excitement until we had safely entered our room.
"Oh my gosh! That was one of the bet times in my life!" Rainbow gushed.
"I know! It was like everything we had joked about had come true!" I exclaimed, playing the messages on the answering machine.
"Oh my gosh, this has been the best day!" Rainbow said.
"Um, hey you guys. This is Eddie...remember me? Just thought I'd call you and see what was up. Umm...call me back at..."
Rainbow and I stared in shock at each other for a long time. "Eddie?" I squeaked. "*Eddie?*"
"*Our* Eddie?" Rainbow asked.
Eddie had been our huge major like in eighth grade. We had been so obsessed with him it was almost insane. Without speaking to him for more than ten minutes, we fell into a deep chasm full of him-his looks, his voice and our delusions about him were all we could think of. In our freshman year of high school, we got over him, but were still on good terms with him. And after Eddie had graduated, we had lost all contact with him-until now.
"What time is it?" Rainbow asked.
"About midnight. Why?" I replied.
"Gimme the phone. What was that number again?"
"Rain! You can't call people this late!" I exclaimed.
Rainbow waved her hand at me. "Oh come on-you know no one goes to bed this early." And so she dialed the number. "Hi, um, is Eddie there? This is him? Hi! Do you know who this is? Nope, I'm not Ocean...That's it!...How'd you get our number?...Oh, i see...wanna talk to Ocean?...Here she is."
The phone was shoved into my hand. "Um, hello?" I stammered.
"Ocean? Hey, this is Eddie. How's it goin?" Eddie asked.
"Um, okay. How about you?"
"Doin good. I just transferred her to Berkley...thought I'd look you two up cuz I'd heard you'd gone here," Eddie said.
"oh...who told you that?" I asked.
"Um...I can't remember...." Eddie trailed off. "So what have you been up to?"
I grinned. "We hung out with 'N Sync today."
"Riight."
"No, seriously. We did," I said.
"Seriously?"
"Yup."
"How cool. How'd you do that?"
"we won a contest on the radio. It was awesome," I said. "Oh-Rainbow wants to talk again."
As Rainbow talked to Eddie for awhile, I lay back on my bed and thought about the day's events. It was Lnace who occupied ninety percent of my thoughts. He had been really flirty and we had talked a bunch. Then again,I had talked to the other guys a bunch too. But Lance had wanted my number. He had also said so *we* can keep in touch...did that mean keep in touch with the whole band or just him? I hadn't been in such deep thought over a guy in forever.
Rainbow hung up the phone. "That is so cool! I never thought we'd hear from him again, but we did! What's wrong?"
"Oh nothing. Just thinking," I said with a smile.
"About Lance...yes I know. He's great, huh?" Rainbow grinned.
"Oh, whatever, shush," I said, trying to hide  a smile.
"No, don't give me that. I can tell by the smile on your face...so-what's up with you two?" Rainbow asked.
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. What about you and JC?" I shot back.
"Oh my gosh. I could talk to him forever-I'm serious!" Rainbow exclaimed."I've never felt this comfortable around guys before but with them..."
"I know exactly what you mean..."
