Anak of Krakatua 30 Dec - 2 Jan 2006
Goats outside our hotel?
View of main road from our restaurant. The restaurant here tends to overcharge for everything. Clarify with them.
Goreng pisang with cheese. Yucky!
Hotel view. Nice ambience but facilities suck. Water stop every other hour.
A poor caged Komodo lizard.
On our way to a small local waterfall.
Mud trail along the way. Very muddy.
Red arrow pointing in the direction
Halfway mark
Took us 2 hours to reach there from the main road.
Got 3 huts selling drinks and food.
Fast water rapids
First hut
Crossing the knee deep river. It was fast flowing due to the heavy rain. East Java flooded and killed about 30 odd people
The waterfall. We miss it. It is about 50 metres before the hut.
Trail back.
Xtra large millipede
Toll booth that was previously open. We paid rp3750 each.
Coconut. We order a few at rp5000 each.
Durian. Expensive at S$8 each. Taste shiok!
Our boat driver and guide to Krakatua. The boat had twin engines and cost us rp3.5million. Expensive.
Choppy sea… we get backpain after a while. Seat at the back of the boat is less painful.
View of Anak of Krakatua.
Closer view.
On the black sandy beach.
National park sign.
First terrain was full of coniferous trees.
Notice the rocks spilled out in 1997 eruption
More rocks.
Steep uphill climb. About 200m and takes about 30min.
At the midway point. A safety distance from the live Anak of Krakatua
Earthquake measuring equipment
Trail up Krakatua. Too dangerous.
Distance view of ‘Old Krakatua’, Ranaka
Survey control point.
Trail up Krakatua. Too dangerous.
Going back down. Steep.
Steeper.
Side view. Distance is ‘Old Krakatua’
Rocks spill out in 1997
Back to coniferous terrain
Back to boat.
