OHHA MINUTES – January 31, 2006

Widening of Sixteenth Avenue (per letter sent to residents backing onto 16th Ave)

 

Cynthia Martin (P.Eng) Project Manager Roads for York Region presented the following details:

·        The widening of Sixteenth Avenue is possible option included in a “Master Plan” study for future traffic planning within the region.  Highway 7 and Major MacKenzie are also being looked at for potential expansion options of the east/west corridor.

·        This “Master Plan” is a 10 year capital program to identify future infrastructure requirements.

·        Cynthia introduced Tyrone Gan (President) and Nathalie Baudais (Transportation Planner) both from iTRANS Consulting Inc.

·        iTRANS was contracted to perform the Environmental assessment study.

·        Components of this study include Rapid Transit, intersection improvements, road widening, bicycle routes, impact on residents, etc.

·        They will be holding “Open Houses “ at Hillcrest Mall and Markville Mall in about 1 month and signs are to be posted

 

Residents responded with the following concerns:

 

·        increased speeding and related safety concerns (pedestrians, schools, daycares, arena, etc)

·        road noise already a problem

·        police not patrolling effectively currently

·        potential issues with turning onto Sixteenth Avenue from Fern

 

Observatory Lands:

 

·        Bert has been in contact with the Hillsview Homeowners group and the Bayview Hills Homeowners group and they will contact us if any new developments surface.

Membership

 

·        Several new members joined the association

 

 

Feed back and new ideas

 

·        A resident expressed concerns about the slow growth of town planted trees along Fern Avenue. Another resident explained that these are slow growth oak trees.

 

·        Someone suggested having a “Litter pickup event for Earth Day” - volunteers are needed to organize the event.

 

·        A Family Day in the Park was suggested – again volunteers are needed to organize the event. The OHHA offered to provide some funding for such an event.

 

·        Reintroduce the OHHA via flyer distribution – volunteers?

 

·        Someone suggested starting a neighbourhood watch program – again someone has to volunteer and implement the program.
