"Junk" Files These files are typically windows-created or leftovers from an installation or operation. Part 1: .TMP Files 1) Click Start 2) Clcik Find or Search 3) Click Files or Folders 4) In the box labeled "Named" type in *.tmp 5) In the box labeled "Look in" choose "My Computer" 6) Click Find/Search now 7) Wait until Windows finishes the search 8) Hit CTRL+A, to select all of the files in the list 9) Hit delete on the keyboard to delete all files in the folder 10) Say "Yes" or "Yes to All" IF the computer asks for confirmation Part 2: TEMP files *Note, if folders are not listed there may be an option on the left side of the window to "Show all files" 1) Double click "My Computer" 2) Double click "C Drive" or "Local Disk C" 3) Double click on the "Windows" directory 4) Double click on the TEMP directory 5) Hit CTRL+A to highlight the files in the folder 6) Hit delete on the keyboard to delete all files in the folder 7) Say "Yes" or "Yes to All" IF the computer asks for confirmation 8) Close all open windows Part 3: Temporary Internet Files 1) Right click the internet explorer icon on your desktop 2) Choose Properties 3) Hit the "Delete Files" button to remove temporary internet files Alt. Method If you perform step one, and the option is not available (there are probably only 2 tabs at the top ) use this method to remove the files. 1) Click Start 2) Click Settings 3) Click Control Panel 4) Double click Internet Options (if unavailable refer to note on part 2) 5) Hit the "Delete Files" button to remove temporary internet files After performing all steps, restart the computer.
