The Oberlin Circuit was organized in 1877 with the Oberlin and Lyle Churches. The Oberlin congregation met in a home, later holding services in a log school house. The first Methodist Church in Oberlin was constructed in 1886 at a cost of $5,000.

In 1900 a storm partially destroyed the steeple of the church. The building was remodeled, leaving the steeple off. The original building was constructed with soft brick and time took its toll.

In 1922 the decision was made to raze the old structure. A new church was dedicated in 1926.

In 1961 an educational building was added to accommodate a growing congregation. The sanctuary of the church was remodeled and air-conditioned in 1964.

In 1985, property was purchased west of the church and a concrete parking lot was constructed. In 1987 the church building underwent major repair including tuckpointing the brick, repairing the stained glass windows and installing plexiglas over the windows to provide protection from hail or vandalism.

In 1988 an elevator was installed to serve the needs of the elderly. It required an addition to the front of the existing building. The project was completed at a cost of $33,400.

The congregation had a membership of 470 in 1990.

In 2002 the Church Celebrated its 125th Anniversary.
