Trip Report: Wilder Ranche Hike, November 2001

Four of us hiked in the light rain and drizzle for about 4 miles on the interior trails of Wilder Ranch State park. We took a slightly different route than I had planned as the trail we were going to return on was now closed. Oops. The alternate route was fine though. We had a good time and managed not to get lost with the change in route!!

After the four mile hike we checked out the Wilder Ranch store and took a bathroom break. Two hikers had to leave after that so the remaining two of us went for a short hike to Fern Beach and back. It was very windy but beautiful along the trail. We had a very cozy little lunch inside the fern grotto cave away from the wind and cold. My fellow hiker was amused to be shorter than I and able to stand up in the cave when I had to crouch a little! The hike back to the cars was uneventful but still beautiful. It was fun to see the waves crashing onto the cliffs and rocks along the shore.
