Thanks for inquiring about our club and where to ride in Ohio. The OATVRA is a loose knit family oriented club. We have a lot of members who bring their entire family on campouts and rides. We usually have rides once a month during the riding season, some of which take place on club member?s property. We have adopted a trail in the Wayne National Forest Athens District, we do trail maintenance twice a year and we have worked with the Ohio Division of Natural Resources on special projects in our state.
Our club dues are $25.00 the first year and $20.00 the second and there on. If interested in joining our organization e-mail your name and address so we can send a application.
Where to ride in Ohio. The main areas to ride are either State or Federal parks or forests.
OHIO, State
Perry State Forest APV area located southeast of Somerset, Ohio this area is mainly old strip mines, steep hill and ruts. The riding can be very difficult for novice riders. Good for a day or two of riding.
Richland Furnace APV area located in Vinton County this is the smallest of the state riding areas. The trails are not as challenging as Perry but they can still be tough for kids and novice riders. Good for a half of a day ride.
Pike State Forest APV area is located by Sinking Spring, Ohio is in between Perry and Richland in size and difficulty. There are some open fields that the little riders could play in to warm up. Good for half to full day of riding.
Maumee State Forest APV area is located west of Whitehouse, Ohio in the northeast part of the state (Toledo). The terrain is mostly flat with sandy soil conditions makes this a great place to take the beginners to novice rider. Good for a half to full day ride.
Notes:
All state riding areas require a State APV sticker from your home state for every bike regardless of age of rider. Helmets are also needed, riders must be 12yrs old but as long as younger riders are with parents we have not had a problem. There is no camping in the staging areas of any state riding spot, but there is a nice campground 1 mile away from Pike called Long?s Retreat. The trails are open for ORV use from April 15th to December 15th and there?re closed the rest of the year to save on maintenance costs. For detailed trail maps and directions:

Athens district of the Wayne National Forest has several staging areas for its one riding area: NewStraitsville, Snake Hollow, Dorr Run, Long Ridge, and Williams Campground (for a small fee).
New Straitsville is located about one mile south of New Straitsville, Ohio on State route 595, this area consists of a three mile loop trail with a connection to the main corridor that links to the rest of the trail system. The northern three-mile loop is the section that the club has adopted. This is a good trailhead for beginning riders because it tends to be less crowded than the other trailheads.
Ironton district of the Wayne National Forest has two separate riding areas: Hanging Rock in the south near the Ohio River, and another area to the north between Pedro and Oak Hill Ohio.
Hanging Rock is located north of the town of Hanging Rock (yes really) about one mile or so. This area has a nice staging area with loop trails. The trail difficulty would be considered intermediate with some easy and more difficult sections. One other unique thing is there are several fishing lakes in the area. This area is good for a weekend by itself.
Other area in Ironton has three staging areas Wolcutt, Lyra, and Telegraph. Telegraph is the easiest to get to because it?s just off St.Rt.93 south of Oak Hill, Ohio. The key feature with this group of trails is that they are all connected but there are no loops. This means you run the same trail out and back. The trails are long enough to be good for a half to full day of riding.
Notes:
All federal riding areas require a State APV sticker from your home state for every bike regardless of age of rider, as well as Federal user permit for riders 16yrs or older. There are daily, weekly, and yearly permits available as well as family. Helmets are also needed, riders must be 12yrs old but as long as younger riders are with parents we have not had a problem. There is camping in the staging areas of any federal riding spot or anywhere on National Forest property. The ORV riding season runs from April 15th to December 15th trails are closed in the winter months due to high maintenance costs. For detailed trail maps and directions call the Wayne district that you?re interested in.
