WHAT IS OPERATION SHOEBOX?
Operation Christmas Child , Samaritan's Purse, Franklin Graham
Operation Shoebox is a humanitarian outreach of the Oasis Network. Radio listeners prepare "shoeboxes of love" for distribution to children in an impoverished area. These gifts are distributed through a host organization that has an established ministry in that area. When the shoeboxes are distributed, a special program is presented to the recipients of the boxes. These children hear about God's love for them and learn how to ask Jesus Christ into their hearts.
WHAT HAS OPERATION SHOEBOX DONE?
The first Operation Shoebox collection was in 1996. Our host organization was "Mission in East." In January 1997, over 4,000 shoeboxes were distributed to children in the Ukraine near Chernobyl. This area had been experiencing the severe effects of a nuclear accident that had occurred some years earlier. Distribution team members went to orphanages and hospitals in the region where gifts were gratefully received.
The second year, Oasis Network teamed up with Living Water Teaching for Operation Shoebox Guatemala. Almost 6,000 shoeboxes were prepared for children in that country which in previous years had been torn by civil war. Distribution team members visited hospitals, orphanages, churches and military installations. Hardened men of combat were softened when they saw God's love through these gift-filled parcels given to their children. Over 1000 professions of faith were counted during this trip (see pictures).
"Bring it on home to the USA" was the theme for our third year. Our host organization was one of the oldest and most respected in the world--the Salvation Army. The Oasis Network's affiliate stations connected with the Army's post in each area. Over 11,000 shoeboxes were collected that year. In each area, the shoeboxes were distributed locally through the Salvation Army.
In 1999, our host organization was the Marion Zirkle Children's Foundation. The destination was Central America. MZCF distributed shoeboxes in Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras; and team members from Oasis Network stations in Oklahoma, Missouri and Virginia assisted with distribution in Costa Rica. Although Costa Rica itself is very peaceful, its location has made it a haven for refugees from nearby countries with less prosperous economies. Many of the 4,000 shoeboxes collected that year were received by refugee children. Over 1,000 salvations were counted through our Central American distributions (see pictures).
For the year 2000, our project was Operation Shoebox Mexico. We teamed up with Robert and Susan King of Abundant Life in Jesus, based in El Paso TX, who minister to the people of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. ALJ has been meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of the people "on the border" for over ten years. Over 60 Oasis team members from Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Virginia helped to distribute some of the more than 6,000 shoeboxes that were prepared.  ALJ also presented parents with a coupon to receive a gift of rice and beans through their local church.  Many experienced salvation, healing and the joy of the Lord through this outreach.  (see pictures.)
WHAT IS THE FOCUS OF OPERATION SHOEBOX FOR THIS YEAR?
