StoryBook Story

Angel rocked the small child in his arms. His grandson! Wow! Who would have thought. When the child started to fuss he fell back into old patterns. He had gotten plenty of experience in the last twenty-five years, between his own Conner and Codelia and Groo's brood of five. He smiled to himself a little and tried to think of a suitable story for the youngster. A love story then, as he gazed into trusting eyes. He had long ago edited out the juicer parts. By now the tale was old and worn like a soft comfortable blanket. Taken out and shared often with love.

Come my Love I'll tell you a tale, of a boy and girl and their love story,

Once upon a time in a land not too far away lived a young man named Xander. Now Xander was both beautiful and shy. He worked for a Warrior Lady. He fetched and carryed anything she might need. Always ready to help in anyway he could. Everyone thought he was in love with her. All of the Warrior Lady's friends laughed at him. But he didn't seem to care.

And he loved her oh so much, and all the charms she did posses,

But the truth was much diffrent. You see Xander was really in love with one of the Warrior Lady's fighters. Spike. Blond hair. Blue eyes. Loud mouth. None of the other fighteres could see the man behind the mouth. No one else except Xander. He loved the truth that Spike loved to blurt out when everyone else wanted to shy away from it. He loved Spikes biting wit and intellect that everyone else just ignored.

Now this did happen Once upon a time, when things where not so complex,

Now this happened a long time ago. Before the Warrior Lady was killed in battle and the world went crazy. Before your Aunt Cordy met your Uncle Groo. Before your father was born even!

And how he worshipped the ground she walked, and when he looked into her eyes he became obsessed,

Now Xander didn't want the other fighters to know how he really felt but every time he looked into Spikes eyes his love grew until he could hide it no longer from the fighter.

And he said don't you know I love you oh so much and lay my heart at the foot of your dress,

One night while out fighting the forces of evil. Spike was injured. Xander rushed to his loves side. He could hide his love no longer. As he nursed Spike he confessed his love to the older man. He poured out his heart in front of the Warrior Lady and all the other fighters. They were all stunned. They couldn't believe that their faithful servant had hidden this from them. Xander felt the fear of rejection his eyes reflected his uncertainty and all of his love.

And she said don't you know that storybook loves, always have a happy ending.

Spike was amazed that someone could look at him with those kinds of emotions shining in their eyes. He thought he had waited to long to answer Xanders declaration when the boy looked away and started to stand. So he made up his mind to grasp onto love and never let it go. He grabbed Xander to him and confessed his undieing love as well.

Then he swooped her up just like in the books, and on his stallion they rode away,

The Warrior Lady and her fighters never accepted Spike and Xander together. So one day Spike went and packed Xander and all of his things into his car and they rode away. Not running from anything but running to something.

Angels voice was husky as he leaned down to kiss the sleeping child. "And that is how Uncle Spike brought Uncle Xander home." Angel placed the warm infant in the small bed, raised the rail and left the room, Shutting off the light but leaving the door ajar.

As he walked back to the room he shared with Lorne he was humming a romantic tune.

My love is like a storybook story, But its as real as the feelings I feel.

And they lived happily ever after.

The End.
