History

Corpus Christi is a unique community that balances the beauty and calm of a sparkling village-by-the-sea atmosphere with big city benefits and opportunities.  A seaport at the mouth of the Nueces River on the west end of Corpus Christi Bay, the city has a rich history beginning with tribes of the Karankawa Indian group who migrated up and down the Coastal Bend.

The bay, and the city that later sprung up there, took the name Corpus Christi, the feast day celebrating the "Body of Christ."  On September 14, 1926, the City celebrated the opening of its deepwater port.  In 1927, the first "skyscraper," the Nixon Building, was completed    .  Growth continued, and Corpus Christi is now the largest city on the Texas Coast and the sixth largest port in the nation.

Corpus Christi is a great place for visitors, with beautiful beaches, wonderful weather and unique attractions.
