| From the Pastor: A warm welcome to all who are worshipping with us today. A special welcome to all mothers on this your special day. We all owe a tremendous amount to our mothers and today gives us an opportunity to express that. Billy Graham said the following any years ago, Emerson said men are what their mothers make them but since the world is what men make it, and men are what their mothers make them, it naturally follows that the world can do no better than its mothers - there can be no great men without great mothers. We will endeavour to finish the service a little earlier today in order to show a short video about Angus Buchan. Tonight we will be praying for Angus Buchan at 7 p.m. in the church lounge. On Wednesday May 16 we will be having our church quarterly meeting in the church lounge. All are more than welcome to attend and enter fully into any discussion. Sunday morning, May 20, will be a special service put on by our young people. Do remember them in your prayers as they prepare. At 2 p.m. Rona Edwards will be taking the service at Iona Home. Please remember her in your prayers. At 7 p.m. we will have a special prayer time in the church lounge to prepare for Angus Buchan. Many thanks to the many people who took part in our church review. There is a tape of Erics summing up on the Sunday morning. See Doug if you would like a copy. Please remember the leadership as we work through the issues raised. One of the key things we need to work through is our vision. We are currently planning a day to work this through after Queen' Birthday Weekend. We are looking for 3 people to help Team Teach our Intermediates (Forms 1 and 2) once a month on Sunday mornings. This is urgent. If you can help please see Sean or Fleur. |
| We also need to develop ministries to the community. If you have visions, dreams or ideas in this area let us know and we will help you develop them. Graeme Reid, who has been largely instrumental for inspiring Spreydon Baptists vast community ministries, has written a book to help people in this area - And the Poor Hear Good News. See pamphlets in the foyer. Please continue to remember in your prayers Angus Buchan as he prepares to come to Oamaru at Queens Birthday Weekend. Promotional material will be available today. Please take this home and pray over it that God will show you who to invite. The most effective way of getting people there is by personal invitation. There is enough variety in the meetings to appeal to everyones taste. Make a point of spending special time praying for a release of Gods Spirit in signs, wonders and changed lives. On Sunday, May 20, we will start our Self Denial Appeal to help with the work of Baptist missions in other lands. The theme this year is Together We Can. You will receive a Can with a slot in the top as well as information each Sunday (except Queens Birthday Weekend). Take the Can home and keep it in a prominent place where you can put regular donations in it. Self Denial means you deny yourself something and put the equivalent amount in the tin. You may like to discuss this as a family. You may like to take on a slogan A days pay can go a long way. We will bring the tins back on Sunday 17 June when they will be opened during the morning service, the total counted and announced at the conclusion of the service. All giving must be over and above our normal church giving. We have been having trouble with the new photocopier due to the paper getting damp with the colder weather. Therefore please note the following - the paper tray is to be kept in the paper cupboard at all times except when it is used for copying. There is a small light in the cupboard that needs to be kept on at all times in order to keep the paper warm - therefore please ensure the copier is never switched off at the wall. |
