From the Pastor: A warm welcome to all who are worshiping with us today. This afternoon (24 November) at 2 p.m. I will be conducting the service at Iona Home. If you would like to help we would love to have you. Tonight (24 November) at 7 p.m. we will be having our regular prayer time at Shirley Nind's. Team Leaders will have our final meeting for the year at Shirley Nind's 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday 27 November. Sunday December 1 at 7 p.m. we will be having our monthly "Prayer n Praise" time in the church. This is a time when the church body is encouraged to join together to pray for the life of this fellowship and the wider community. We hope to be in a position quite soon to make an announcement regarding the appointing of a new Youth Worker. We will be privileged to have Alan & Jan Smith with us from Monday December 2 to Sunday December 15. During that time they want to spend as much time as possible visiting people in their homes. To help facilitate this I have pinned to the notice board their itinerary while they are here. Please choose a time that suits you and print your name and phone number on the sheet. They are happy to come for morning tea, afternoon tea, lunch, dinner (why not try breakfast). Many thanks to all who helped with the stall at the Victorian Fete. In spite of being a bit chilly, it went very well and a good sum was raised for missions. It was a privilege and a blessing to visit Baptist Assembly two weekends ago. I list below some of the highlights: * Very inspirational address by the former Race Relations Conciliator Gregory Fortuin * Stuart Robinson's messages regarding the creeping tide of Islam were very sobering indeed. Islamic clerics preach "In the next 50 years we will capture the world for Islam. We have the money and the men and we are already doing it." Today Islam is growing 11 times faster than Christianity on the continent of Africa. * Hopefully next year new training initiative for Elders. * Murray Robertson's address on the demon of "Consumerism" that is destroying the church in the West. People tend to go from church to church until their needs are met. He describes this as "a demon of astonishing proportions". * Presentation of BYM about the church in 2012 highlighted in a graphic way the tragedy Baptist churches are facing today as we lose more and more of our post High School aged young people. We need to ask ourselves serious questions like "Why?" and "How do we need to change in order to hold them?" In the foyer are some leaflets advertising the latest Focus on the Family video "Unlocking The Mysteries of Life" - "A compelling scientific documentary advancing a powerful idea - the theory of intelligent design." Help yourself to the leaflets and pass them to any friends interested in this issue or who have children of their own. We have ordered a copy for the fellowship which we plan to circulate through the cell groups and young people. It will also be available to borrow. North Otago Christian Men's Fellowship invites men and wives to come to the Blind Foundation Hall on Saturday 30th November 2002 at 6.30 p.m. for a Pot Luck Tea.
