From the Pastor: A warm welcome to all who are worshiping with us today. Due to the long weekend there will be no Sunday School today and no prayer meeting tonight. I will also be having Tuesday off. Next Saturday, November 2, 7.30 p.m. we will be having a "Family Fun Night" with Alan Minear in the back hall. There will be something for everyone so gather up the kids and bring the grandparents for an enjoyable evening of good old fashioned fun. Please also bring something to drink and a plate for supper. The dress code (optional) for the evening is 'Black and/or White'. Alister and Janet & Gaynor and I will be attending the Baptist Assembly in Christchurch, Thursday November 7 to Sunday November 10. Please remember to pray for this strategic gathering of our churches. Many thanks to Alister, Sean, Phillip and Graeme Clarke for their help in putting metal mesh over the windows in the hall. Over the next few weeks there will be some painting being done in the lounge, hallway and office by those on periodic detention. Please remember to keep the door locked between the hall and worship centre for the next few weeks. If you happen to notice any damage to church property please report this immediately to Steve so he can get on top of it before a small problem becomes a big problem. There are still a few "Bags for Missions" available (on the pulpit). Please help yourself to one, take it home and put your spare change in it. Once a quarter we will bring them to church and empty them with all the proceeds going to support our member missionaries. Please do not remove the plug from the freezer in the kitchen as it contains items for the cafe nights run by the youth group. The church leadership are still exploring different options for church buildings and are currently looking at one in particular which may be useful for the future. Of course we are still waiting to see what the police plan to do after their renovations. Please remember this important item in your prayers. An application form has been forwarded to someone interested in applying for our youth leadership position. Please pray for the person and Gary, Sharyn and myself as we conduct any interviews. The annual meeting of the North Otago Christian Book Centre is to be held on Thursday 31 October at 7.30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Hall. If you are interested in joining with the other volunteers by becoming involved in this important work then join us at our meeting and learn more about us. Thursday 7th November: BMF Meeting at Noeline Norrish's home at 1.30 p.m. Roll Call "Extol" Stall for the Victorian Fete: We have booked a stall for this year with enough volunteers willing to help on the day. Help with some Victorian-style clothing would be good. e.g. waistcoats, hats, shawls etc. for those manning the stall. Baking: We are again having a stall at the Victorian Fete on Saturday 16th November - please contact Shirley Nind with offers of old fashioned sweets, toffee apples, shortbread, pickles etc. The sweets will be mixed into paper bags (sweets need to be hard e.g. coconut ice, Russian fudge, toffee etc) and shortbread into half dozen bags. All proceeds to missions. Last year we sold out so please consider helping!! BIBLES FOR FORM 2 PUPILS: It's that time of year again when Form 2 pupils at our local schools are given the opportunity (with parents consent) to receive a "Promise Study' Bible. The cost is $25 each. Bibles are given out at rural schools through the Bible-In-Schools programme, and at Oamaru Intermediate School by the school chaplain. Feedback from young people over the years has been very positive and the Bibles are well received.
