From the Pastor: A warm welcome to all who are worshiping with us today. This morning we will be holding our church AGM as part of our worship service. Our service this morning is a celebration of God's goodness to us during the past year and a brief look ahead to the future. There will be no Sunday School this morning. voting papers will be distributed to members during the service and the results will be announced during the short business session immediately following. There will be a cup of tea and a time of fellowship in the back hall to which you are all invited. There will be a meeting to pray for the life and work of this fellowship at Shirley Nind's at 7 p.m. Tomorrow morning (5th August) Gaynor and I will be leaving for Canada for a period of holiday and study leave. While there I will have the privilege of performing the Marriage Ceremony for my nephew and his fiancé. We will also be attending a Willow Creek Conference. We will be starting back to work on Tuesday September 17. If you have any needs during that time please contact one of the Elders. On Sunday 11 August Alister Calder will be preaching. On August 15 at 10 a.m. we will be having our next service for the "More Traditional At Heart". Bring a friend to share with you in this occasion. On Sunday evening August 18 at 7 p.m. we will be having a healing meeting here in the church. Prayer for healing will be offered for physical and emotional needs as well as prayer for caregivers and mothers. Please remember this in your prayers. There are a number of large cushions in the lounge which the Sunday School and Youth use. Some of these are getting a bit worn, and need to be recovered. If you are able to help with a bit of sewing please see Fleur. Many thanks to those who helped clean the hall and kitchen prior to the elections on Saturday. We really appreciate the work that Deborah Todd is doing in the office each Friday. If you are wanting her to do anything please make sure she has it by 12 noon on Friday. Spreydon Baptist Church in Christchurch is hosting a "South Island Missionfest" Friday and Saturday, September 6 and 7. Bishop Derek Eaton will be speaking. See notice on back wall. Registration forms in foyer. The Masters Institute is an alternative fully accredited Christian Teachers Training College in Auckland. It specialises in training teachers for Primary and Intermediate level. They are currently taking enrolments for next year. There are some leaflets in the foyer if you know anyone who may be interested. Concern has been expressed over the past few years about the lack of Christian floats in the Christmas Parade. Robyn Wells is inviting anyone interested to a buzz session at Elim Church, Wednesday August 7 at 2 p.m. to exchange ideas. A workshop about creative Ministry with children and families presented by the National Co-ordinator of Ministry with children and families of the Presbyterian Church will be held on Saturday August 10th from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St Paul's lounge. Sessions will include: - understanding and connecting with children and their faith development - models of ministries with children and families. - Seasons of the Spirit - an exciting new resource. Today, Sunday 11th August, Christians throughout New Zealand are joining together in prayer for all who are involved in the spread of the Gospel through our mass media. Radio, TV, Film, Print and the Electronic Media shape our lives today as never before. They are our mission field and the opportunities are unparalleled. Our prayers will focus on: - Christians working in the mass media - the personalities who influence community standards - and the decision-makers who can open doors for the Christian message. Genuine prayer in the name of Jesus is a transforming power enabling God's will to be done. During today's service, we will be led in prayer (recorded on tape) by the President of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, Judy Harvey. See noticeboard for more details. CLC CELESTIAL BALL: It's non-alcoholic, semiformal and planned for over 18s on 17th August at Ardgowan Hall. Music ranges from old time waltzes to modern. There will be spot prizes and supper. Tickets are $10 each from Sue Avis. Foodbank Annual Meeting will be held on Friday August 23 at noon in the Foodbank premises. Church representatives are invited to join. Past experience shows that this is not usually a lengthy meeting. This is also a good opportunity for the Foodbank to convey thanks to congregations in and around Oamaru for their support of this work through the year. At present we have a good supply of tinned foods, but there is always a demand for margarine, eggs, packet long-life milk and milo for children. Promise Keepers annual conference will be held in Christchurch August 23 and 24. For more information see notice board. Leaflets in foyer. The Annual Missionary Fundraising Sale is being held on Saturday 28th September. We would be grateful of any items you might have which we could sell (No second-hand clothes thank you). There will be the usual stalls including our famous well-stocked plant stall, books, some lovely crafts, garage sale bargains, cakes and produce. We hope the sale will give our missionary account a much needed boost and thank you, in advance, for your support. Also if you didn't collect a "shrapnel bag" last Sunday and would like one, see Sharyn. It is a great way to get rid of your loose change and help the work going on in Bangladesh and Haiti. "Strengthening Your Structures" September A Conference for any Christian woman who desires to be encouraged and strengthened in her Christian walk.
