MUSIC PRACTICE:  Please contact Worship leader for details of practice times.
There is a box in the foyer for donations to the Combined Churches Foodbank.  This is co-ordinated by Barbara Halkett.  Please be generous as we are entering a very difficult time for many families.

If you park on either side of the church please move your vehicle towards the front so others can park behind you.  Remember the WINZ carpark is available with access by our new door through the church lounge.

Congratulations to Mike and Tina who were married on Saturday.

Please remember in your prayers Stephen Walker recovering from recent surgery.  Also remember those not able to get to services - Ethel Baker, Noel Cleverley, Phil Sargent.

From the Pastor:
A warm welcome to all who are worshiping with us today.  Janet Calder and I are currently attending Baptist Assembly in Palmerston North and will be returning home later this evening.  Alister Calder will be preaching this morning and at 7 p.m. we will have our regular prayer for the life and work of the fellowship at Shirleys place.

Deacons will meet 7.30 p.m. November 14.

On Sunday November 18 we will be having our annual Heritage Service.  It has been great to see more and more people entering into the spirit of the weekend by coming to our morning service in period costume and we are encouraging folk to do the same this year.  Sharyn Walker is co-ordinating our stall at the fete and would love to hear from you if you can offer help with the stall or just to help make a crowd or help with the free childrens activities we are offering.  Donations of items to sell will also be appreciated.

On Wednesday November 21, 7.30 p.m. we will be having our church quarterly meeting.  This meeting is open for all to attend and share in any discussion, but only members may vote.  The minutes of the May meeting are on the noticeboard.

On Friday November 23, 7.30 p.m. we will be hosting our bimonthly interchurch prayer meeting to pray for the needs of this area and to help prepare the way for God to move more powerfully in North Otago.  Please plan to be there.

USEFUL INFORMATION
Doesnt Islam mean peace?  Islam means submission to Allah, which is the only way to have peace i.e. the absence of war.  The Arabic verb aslam means surrendered.  Muslims were given different instructions to follow according to the different situations, whether they were in a weak situation or in power.  Muhammad, the founder of Islam, gave instructions to kill those who dont believe in Allah.  During the second phase of his religious life when he became militant, Muhammad gave instructions to kill those who dont believe in Allah, whereas his words in the first phase of his religious life were full of tolerance, as he was helpless and in the minority.  Muslims call these two phases after the two cities in todays Saudi Arabia.  They call the first phase after Mecca, and the second phase after Madina, where Muhammad triumphed in military power.

What is Jihad (Holy War)?
In the Quran, Allah orders Muslims to terrorize non-Muslims on His behalf:
Fight (kill) them (non-Muslims) and Allah will punish (torment) them by your hands, cover them with shame  Surah 9:14 I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them...It is not you who slew them; it was Allah.  Surah 8:12-17
The only assurance a Muslim has of going to Paradise is through fighting for the cause of spreading Islam (Jihad), and being martyred in the process.  And if you are slain, or die in the way of Allah, forgiveness and mercy from Allah are far better than all they could amass.  Surah 3:157
