From the Pastor: A warm welcome to all those who are worshiping with us today. As this is the first newsletter of the Millennium, Gaynor and I trust each of you has a healthy and prosperous New Year. Sunday School will start today in the back hall. There are a number of areas in which Fleur could use some help - See notice. Please remember Rona Edwards in your prayers as she takes the service at Iona Home today at 2 p.m. On Sunday morning February 11 Alan Minnear will lead our worship and we will have Deborah Bower from the Bible Society sharing in our morning service. In the evening at 7 p.m. we will have a prayer time for the life and work of this fellowship in the church lounge. We are extremely grateful to the Arjay Trust, based in Auckland, for their recent grant of $4,000 for the support of our Youth Worker. Do remember to pray for Sean and Katie as they begin their work this year. Small Groups are a very important part of the ministry of this church and we would encourage every person, if they havent already done so, to join with a group of other people with whom you can share your life and faith. Gaynor and I will be starting up another Divorce Care course in the very near future. We ran our first series last year which was very successful and much appreciated by all who attended. Divorce Care is a programme we specially imported from overseas because of its effectiveness in helping those who have gone through the trauma of divorce or separation either recently or many years ago. Many people who go through the course want to do it again because it is so helpful. If you know of anyone you think could benefit do give them an invitation to come. The cost is $30 which covers the entire 14 weeks and a comprehensive workbook. If folk are not able to pay the full cost, provision can be made for a reduced cost. Please see me soon if you are interested or know of someone who is or if you would like more information.

Deacons will have their first meeting for the year on Wednesday 14th February at 7.30 p.m. On Queens Birthday Weekend we will be having a major outreach in Oamaru combined with other churches in the area. We have been offered the privilege of hosting a South African Evangelist, Angus Buchan. There are many details to be worked out, but in the meantime you may like to make a note of this in your diary and begin praying for this very special time. There will be more information in the coming months. We wish to congratulate Sue Avis on her recent appointment as Captain of the 2nd Oamaru Girls Brigade Company. She will be commissioned at the Union Church morning service on Sunday February 25. Please remember Sue in your prayers as she takes on this important ministry. As a church family we extend our sympathy to Mary-Ann Clarke and Joy Warren and their families following the recent death of their mother. There will be a church Family BBQ lunch at Steve & Robin Bradleys place after the service on Sunday February 18. BYO chairs, lunch to share and own meat to BBQ. There will be a map on the back wall showing you how to get there. HEY THERE YOUNG PEOPLE! Hope you all had a great holiday. As you know, Easter Camp will soon be with us and its gonna be an awesome weekend! SO - we need to start thinking of some ways to help us get there. Put your thinking caps on and lets make some money. Cost is around the $80 mark. Let Sean know what your ideas are A.S.A.P. CAN YOU HELP? Sean needs a bike for work - does anyone have one they could lend him, please? Sean & Katie are looking for volunteers to go on a baby-sitting roster for the Thursday night Youth Group so that Katie can be involved in the programme. Time involved would be from 6.45 to 8.15 p.m. Contact Katie on 4342182 if you can help.

SUNDAY SCHOOL will begin today. There are lots of ways we would like to see the church family involved. We need: helpers, leaders, prayers, testimonies, story-tellers, music people, craft or project people. Our themes are: Prayer; Telling the Good news; and Jeremiah. If any of these themes inspire you to lead us in a drama, craft, mural, potting or celebrations we would love to hear from you. By the way - an old couch would be handy too! See Debbie Hodge or Fleur Martin. CRECHE will also begin today and will be going out with the Sunday School during the morning service.
