There are some wonderful opportunities available for service for which we would love your support.  On the back wall is the Duty Roster for Church Cleaning, Communion Stewards, Hostess, Door Duty and Flowers.  If you can help in any of these areas please put your name down.  Many hands make light work!

The church in Tripura which has been supported by New Zealand Baptists for many years is currently experiencing significant growth and has many needs due to the poverty of the country.  The Baptist Missionary Fellowship (BMF) has decided to take on one of these as a national project.  They are currently trying to raise enough funds to help the church in Tripura purchase a new 4 Wheel Drive Jeep.  This is necessary due to the political unrest in the area.  Attacks on broken down vehicles are rife and the lives of those encouraging the churches depend on a reliable vehicle.  The cost of a new vehicle is $30,000 if you would like to help with this please put an envelope in the offering marked Tripura Vehicle Appeal.

REMEMBER: COMMUNION SUNDAY IS OUR COMMUNITY SUNDAY.

Please remember to collect your used stamps for BMF funds:  Leave some paper around the stamp when torn off the envelope.  Any inquiries to Francis 4370311.

OAMARU BAPTIST YOUTH! We are going to be over the next coming months doing some serious fund raising for Easter Camp 2002.  Plus we are planning a short term mission towards the end of next year to Thailand.  I am sending out a letter to all parents and the church family explaining some of the things that we are wanting to do and also calling for your ideas if you could fill out the form and get it back to either Sean, Heather Murray or Fleur Martin that would be really Awesome!
QUESTION?  Are there any people who would be prepared to explore the possibilities of how to effectively minister to solo parents?  If so please contact Janet Calder at 434 9435.

At the meeting following our service on August 5 it was overwhelmingly agreed to install a door through our church lounge to enable use of the Coquet House car park.  We are in the process of applying for a permit.  Work will commence once this comes through.

THE BUDDY PROGRAMME is in need of more buddies!  If you are interested in helping the children/young people of North Otago please contact Ainslie Mitchell at 4349248.

BIBLES:  Do you have any Bibles lying around collecting dust?  Sunday School are doing a unit on Bibles and a lot of the children come along without one.  Preferably Old and New Testaments.   Please pass them to Fleur or Myra as soon as possible.  If you require them to be returned please put your name in them and make it clear.  We can take all care but no responsibility, so if its your family heirloom, please dont give it to us!  Parents, please if your son or daughter has a Bible, remind them to bring it along on Sundays.

From the Pastor:
A warm welcome to all who are worshiping with us today.  At 7 p.m. we will be having our church prayer meeting at Shirley Ninds (its warmer) 26 Stuart Street.

On Tuesday August 21 Gaynor, myself and Janet will be in Timaru at our bi-monthly gathering of Pastors and wives from South Canterbury.

On Wednesday August 22 Elders will meet at 7.30 p.m.

We wish to express our grateful thanks to the Boulcott Trust in Wellington for their generous grant of $5,500 for our youth ministry.  This is made up of $4,000 towards Seans support, $1,300 for a 29 monitor to be used for training etc. and $200 for the purchase of sports equipment.

In the near future we plan to move the photocopier and paper cupboard into Seans office.  This will create more room in the church lounge and make it less cluttered.  We are currently making a list of people who will need a key for access.  If you use the copier and need a key please see Sean or myself.

The Loop System for people with hearing aids has been installed and can be accessed from anywhere within the main seating area.  This is designed to run in parallel with our existing set up.

The new Alpha course will start on Thursday August 23.  Please make this a matter of prayer that the right people will be there.  There are more invitations in the foyer if you know someone you would like to invite.  If possible we would like to know numbers by this Monday however people are more than welcome to turn up on the night.
