From the Pastor:

A warm welcome to all who are worshiping with us today.  We have as our guest speaker this morning Dave and Pushpa Waters, missionaries from Vietnam.  At 2.15 p.m. I will be taking the service at Whitestone Lodge and would appreciate your prayers.  Tonight at 7 p.m. there will be a combined churches presentation by the Excel Ministries Team at the Salvation Army.

Many thanks to those who gave so generously to the Self Denial Appeal.  The total raised last Sunday was $1303.35.  If you still have money to give please put it in a specially marked envelope and place it in the offering bag.

On Wednesday June 27 the Team Leaders will meet at Shirley Ninds home.

On Friday June 29, 7.30 p.m. there will be a combined churches prayer meeting at the Salvation Army to pray especially for Drug and Alcohol problems in North Otago.

On Saturday June 30 Eric King our South Island Superintendent of Baptist churches will be leading us as a church family in an Envisioning Day.  It was decided from our church review that the most important thing we needed to address was the matter of developing a clear church vision everyone would be aware of.  That vision would then shape our future direction and policies.  We hope as many people as possible will join us from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (bring your own lunch - tea and coffee will be supplied).  In
preparation for the day you may like to ponder the question What would you like Oamaru Baptist church to be like in the next 10 years? or What would you like to see happening in this church in the next 10 years?  This will clearly be one of the most important things we will do, as once this is developed it will determine our direction for the foreseeable future.

KEEP THIS DATE FREE - We are planning a Church Family Camp on the weekend of 5, 6 and 7 October.  This is the last weekend of the school holidays before the start of Term 4.  The camp will be at Camp Iona and will be for anyone who wants a weekend of fun, fellowship and food.  While the planning is only at the early stage, if you have any ideas, please see Steve Cousins.  Phone/Fax 4372769 or e-mail [email protected] as soon as possible.
On Sunday July 1, Eric will be preaching in our morning service.  We will be having prayer for the life and work of this fellowship at 7 p.m. in the church lounge.

The Institute of Basic Life Principles is holding a seminar at the Salvation Army (sponsored by the Elim Church) July 9-14.  This excellent seminar has been attended by over 2.5 million people worldwide.  The seminar is designed to give answers to lifes questions by applying Biblical principles.  Leaflets are in the foyer.

Due to increasing attendance on Sunday mornings we would appreciate it if folk who attend church here regularly could move closer to the front, leaving the rear seats available for those who arrive late.

Nominations opened last week for the position of Elder.  Please make this a matter of prayer that the right people are appointed.  There is a nomination form in this newsletter or you can use the one on the back wall.  Nominations need to be in the hands of Nan Sargent by Wednesday July 11 (before our Deacons meeting).

Due to school holidays there will be no Sunday School from July 1 - July 15.  Sunday School will start again on Sunday July 22.

There are some spare copies of the letter we received from Right to Life re the Prostitution Reform Bill.  Please take a copy and familiarise yourself with the contents and write to your MP.  The results of this Bill, if it is passed, will most likely lead to an increase in the exploitation of females, prostitution and STDs.

There is a hui at Living Springs in Christchurch July 13-15 for those who are interested in developing Community Ministries in North Otago.  See noticeboard for more details.  If you are interested let me know.

If anyone is in need of a fridge give me a ring as we have one available for a reasonable offer 434 5716.

Treatment Works Week 25 June - 29 June.  This is a programme to highlight the drug and alcohol problem particularly amongst our youth.  It is to develop an awareness amongst users and the community that here is something that works.  Ron Parker is leading this at the request of the Waitaki Safer Community Council.  Two prayer ecumenical meetings have been arranged to uphold this venture.  The first one is Monday 25 June, 10 - 10.45 a.m. Dean OReilly room, Reed Street.  The second one is on Friday 29 June, 7.30 p.m. Salvation Army.  Ron Parker will lead this.  All welcome.
