From the Pastor:
As the time is almost here to celebrate the coming to earth of Jesus Christ it is my prayer that, in the midst of all of our busyness, something of the awe and wonder of what God did will touch our hearts afresh. His name shall be called Emmanuel God With Us; Prince of Peace the Saviour of the world. We are so grateful He didn't remain a baby but grew to manhood, died on a cross, rose from the dead, then ascended into Heaven where He now sits at the right hand of the Father praying for us and preparing to come back to the world to set up His Kingdom where He will rule and reign for a thousand years? before creating a new heaven and a new earth. He has given us the most important message in all the world.
This afternoon at 2 p.m. I will be taking the service at Iona Home. If you would like to come and help by talking with the residents we would love your company. Tonight at 8 p.m. we will be having our Community Carol Service in the Gardens near the Band Rotunda. The Salvation Army Band will start playing at approximately 7.30 p.m. Don?t forget to bring your own candle, blanket or chair. There will be a gold coin and/or non-perishable food offering for the food bank.
On Sunday evening December 24 at 7.30 p.m. we will have our special Christmas Eve service. This will be followed by supper in the back hall. Would folk please bring a plate for supper. This is a time of year when many people are interested in coming to church who don?t normally do so. You may like to ask the Lord if there is anyone you can bring with you. We are planning a bright cheerful time that people will not only enjoy but receive a relevant and helpful message to take away.
On Sunday morning, January 31, we will have the pleasure of baptising Doug Robertson. Please bring a scripture or word of encouragement to share with him. If you are interested in being baptised or would like more information please see Bruce. On New Year's Eve at 8 p.m. we will be gathering at Alister & Janet's to see in the New Year. You are most welcome to come and bring as many friends as you like. Please bring something for supper, a chair and a thought or scripture to share for the new year.
We rejoice that Robyn is making a steady recovery from her recent heart attack. However it will still be some time before she is ready to go back to work. She is grateful to those who have been praying for her and sent messages. It may be a while before she is able to respond to messages, but will reply when she is stronger. Her total medical costs are approximately $5,000 (NZ) of which we have received $3,500 (many thanks to those who have contributed). The church in Haiti will also contribute towards the costs. If you would like to help towards this expense please place a suitably marked envelope in the offering.
With the office now set up with quite a lot of equipment it was felt it would be useful to have a bit more security. We are also aware that the driveways on either side provide a good cover of darkness for anyone wandering down there so have installed security lights on both sides. A special thanks to Doug for his work installing these. We plan to put up security mesh in the office window in the near future.
There is currently significant interest around the country in creating a national prayer network that would cover New Zealand with prayer 24 hours a day for 7 days a week. If we were to get involved with this it would mean that we would pick one day or one half day per month in which we would have people praying in either half hour or hour slots. As there would need to be co-ordination of this each month we would need someone to facilitate this on a regular basis. If you feel this is something you would be interested in doing please see Bruce for more details.
As this will be the last newsletter for the year, Gaynor and I would like to take this opportunity to thank so many people for their prayers and commitment during the past year. Very little of what has been accomplished could have happened without a good and dedicated team behind us. We wish each one a Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year.
