Text Box: EASTER SPRING FLING
Thanks to this year’s Easter planner, Wanda Granier, the kids and parents all shared a fun filled event with several new items to enjoy such as a bounce house, games, prizes, and an old fashioned cake walk.

The Easter Egg hunts were divided by age groups and this gave all of the kids a chance to collect their limit. Many parents commented on this method being a great idea for their little ones. Once emptied into a child’s sack the empty eggs were then turned back in for a child’s choice of the prizes offered.

The old fashioned cake walk was a hugh success with all ages as it took place on the merry-go-round to music. Even the teenagers and adults wanted their chance on a spin for one of the great homemade and hand decorated cakes donated by the many great cooks in our neighborhood.

Our own Josie Owens was this years Easter Bunny, thank you Josie for a terrific job, the kids loved you.

Thank you to all of the volunteers that made this a very special day for kids of all ages!

                           2007 Relay for Life Walk

WOW — we not only reached our goal but once again we surpassed it thanks to all our families and friends who donated to this very worthy cause.

Thanks to the combined efforts of our Team Captains,  Christine Gossett and Trudy Trusty Stogsdill and all of our great volunteers we raised a total of  $2,277.00.

The only down side to this story, we needed more walkers on the field.  Some of our volunteers had to walk alone due to a lack of bodies.  Each walker is asked to take a one or two hour segment of the day to show our support.  Can you walk for one hour?  Do you want to volunteer next year?  Only one male has walked for the past two years and we need more.  This walk supports research for not only Breast Cancer, which both men and women get, but for all cancers.  It’s called a Relay for Life, not a Relay for Women.  So Men and Women step up and be counted in 2008 for yourself or a loved one.

If you want to join us and get on the list for next year — send an email to the editor at [email protected], and we will notify you when we put our team together in 2008.

Text Box: CINCO DE MAYO PARTY

We "Ole'd into the night" as we enjoyed a festive evening of chili lights, margaritas and fajitas, as 31 joined the Cinco de Mayo festivities at the Page House.

After it sprinkled throughout the afternoon, we were pleased to enjoy a beautiful cool evening on the lake, with good food (catered by Especially for You Catering), great friends, and a laugh or two. With a sombrero and Cozumel Island Mexico t-shirt, Ross Schraeder took the prize for most festive attire. The contest was followed by a swing at the piñata which for Michelle Meek turned out to be an easy target.

A big thank you to the Lamb's for the margarita machines and mix, and to Sue Kille for use of the great Mexico City mural, hand painted by Sue and a friend. We hope to preserve this beautiful piece of art to be used for years to come! Thank you to all who came and made it a memorable evening!

The Denton Humane Society Annual Garage Sale—June 15 & 16

I would like to thank the following families for their donation of items for the Denton Humane Society’s Annual Garage Sale.  Thank you to the Kille’s, the Pearcy’s, the Oosterwijk’s, the Siano’s and the Weaver’s.  The event raised over $3,800.00, some of which will go for a low cost spay and neuter program for lower income families in Denton County.

Thank you for your participation in my favorite cause and please be sure to save your items for next year’s sale.  Please visit www.dentonhumanesociety.org if you would like information on the organization itself.  If you have any questions on how you can help in the future please contact me at 940 440-9712.

Hello To Everyone In Oak Shores.

I really wanted to send a thank you to all of my customers in Oak Shores who have hired me to house sit and dog/cat sit.  It has been a great way for me to earn money for a car and for my college fund.

I hope all of my customers are as happy about my service to them as I am to have worked for them.  I have learned a lot about being more grown and I have all of you to thank for that.  I look forward to working for all of you again soon.

Text Box: THE THIRD ANNUAL FISH FRY WAS A SUCCESS!

Thanks to Alan, Keith and Carrie for helping catch all the fish. Thanks to Lea, Doug and Carrie for running the outdoor kitchen and feeding us. Thanks to Beverly, Carrie, Eric, Keith and Alan for all the set up work. Thanks to Kieran for being the official ‘name drawer’.

And to those who let us borrow when they weren’t able to attend, it was a success thanks to each of you. We think there were 50-55 guests. At one count there were 37 adults present. The kids were hard to count since they were moving too fast. The weather cooperated. The food was delicious. The beer and margaritas were cold. We couldn’t ask for more.

Keith Davidson and Barry Evans took home the trophy for winning the horseshoe competition. Thanks to those who pitched a few. Maxine Lindhauer (attends my yoga class) was the lucky winner of the guided fishing trip.

Thanks to all the guests who came and enjoyed the food, fun and beautiful evening. We’ll do it again next year for those who missed it.

                    HAVE YOU SEEN THIS RECEPTACLE?

Thanks to Herman Oosterwijk our park has this beautifully handcrafted trashcan and  receptacle.  It is located between the NEW toddler swing and the large slide.

Please let your children know that the trashcan is there.

Look out for the new paint job and other great changes being made soon in our park by the Landscape Committee and Oak Shores volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering or joining the committee please contact Dick Weston at 940 365-1801 or by e-mail to [email protected].

THE CROSS ROADS SPRING CLEAN-UP

went even faster this year, even though our roads were just as trashy as in 2006, thanks to the dedication and planning of Alan and Naomi Hauf.    As the coordinators they planned out the event, charted the areas, arranged for a hazardous waste drop off and manned the roads picking up full trash bags, providing extra trash bags and water.

But without all of you cleaning up the town this event would have flopped.  You can all pat yourselves on the back for a job well done.

Hot Dogs were planned for the finale but due to everyone being plumb tuckered out, they never got cooked.  Maybe next year.   Thank you one and all for your dedication to your town and for your hard work.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU JOIN OUR SOCIAL COMMITTEE

Welcome

Welcome to the neighborhood

We hope that you enjoy the woods

But perhaps you’ve been surprised

By some neighbors you have spied

Betty Bobcat strolls around

And Susie Slitherin can be found

Debbie Deer comes by for a run

And Wiley Coyote may pop in for fun

Ricky Raccoon will wander through

And Amanda Armadillo may startle you

Tony Turtle moves mighty slow

If you must pass, please say hello

Paul ‘Possum you may see at night

And Hootie Owl is quite a sight

Thomas Turkey is seen not heard

And Stuart Skunk passes without a word

Road Runner is hither and yon

Carla Cougar was here, then gone

Tina Tarantula likes the right of way

And all your neighbors want to say:

Welcome to the neighborhood,

Remember we’re here and we’ll get along good and without any fear.
