Litter Planning/Breeding
-
All breeding stock must be registered prior to use for breeding; both parents
must be JRTCA registered prior to mating.
-
Conscientiously plan each litter; carefully select stud dog and bitch to be
mated based on pedigrees, the parents' conformation (according to JRTCA
breeding standard), working ability, and temperament.
-
Breeding only to/from adults which are free from any inheritable defects, and
avoid the introduction of any detrimental factors. Any new defects encountered
should be reported to the JRTCA Breeders' Committee. BAER and CERF testing is
encouraged.
-
Adhere to the JRTCA's current policy on inbreeding. Note: When planning a
breeding, any questions concerning the above should be referred to the
Registrar (club office) or Chairman of the JRTCA Breeders Committee before the
mating in question.
-
Breed only healthy, mature bitches over one year of age preferably not before
the second heat, allowing proper spacing between litters. It is recommended
that bitches over the age of eight (8) years not be bred without prior
examination, consultation and approval by an attending veterinarian.
-
Do not breed any bitch to more than one stud dog during a single heat period.
Should a second breeding occur unintentional, the resulting litter must be sold
as pets with a spay/neuter agreement and no pedigree provided.
