Tuesday 22nd February, 2000

Spent most of the evening sanding edges, rounding off edges, looking at edges.... etc etc etc

Thursday 24th February, 2000

Most of the bottom of the craft has been finished now, and the four skids attached. All edges have been trimmed and rounded off and tonight we will turn it over to attach the lift duct. The warmer weather has meant that the epoxy sets a lot quicker and we dont need to wait sooooo long between tasks. It is really starting to look good now, and Im very pleased with the progress...

all we did tonight was to turn the boat over! Looks kinda neat with all the epoxied panels showing inside, all the stringers and ribs in place. This weekend I will attempt fitting the lift duct.

Today we attached 5 external stringers under the main floor of the boat to stiffen the floor for walking on. We used the 1x1 strips that were rejects for internal stringers due to the odd knot. They were screwed and glued on the outside and nailed from the inside. The nailing was done with the boat on its side, one person each side... much easier.

I spent a while looking at the lift duct. It really wasn't how I wanted it...not round enough. So I dismantalled it, and made a quick jig, using a router to trim it much nearer to a perfect circle... I then trimmed the plywood edges to the correct 7 inches and reattached them. With a little sanding, the plywood fitted neatly and I heaved it into place at the front of the boat. It kinda lloked ok, and after some measuring I cut some slots into rib 2 and settled the duct into place... still ok. The angle seems to be about 22 degrees.... fine I think, especially for a 4 stroke engine.

Measured, fitted and fixed the front lower center panel. This was a peantagon in shape with a crescent cut from it. A little tricky to work out, but it fitted first time. Its looking a little more likely now that this is possible!! The rest of the shrouding around the duct looks tough but possible.
The panels continue to be fitted into place.,...
The step at the back of the underside
Not too shabby so far...
Most bottom panels in place
The ends of the five external stringers
Front duct in place
The rear prop shaft bearing mounts
